Shannon Sharpe Joins Frustrated NFL Fans as Drake Maye Faces Tough Time
At just 23 years old, Drake Maye is playing the biggest game of his life at Super Bowl LX. However, it looks like the pressure is getting to him.
His performance against the Seattle Seahawks so far has been disappointing, drawing criticism from Patriots fans and Shannon Sharpe.
“Seahawks trusting that secondary 2 hold up with constant pressure on Maye,” the former tight end posted on X midway through the first half of the game.
He’s not wrong. The Seahawks have the best defense in the entire league. They have produced pressure on 38.1 percent of their opponents’ pass plays, putting their defense fourth in the league. What’s also worrying for Maye is that the Patriots have allowed pressure on 37.3 percent of their pass plays this season.
The Seahawks' defense has already sacked him thrice. Shannon Sharpe is not the only one who is frustrated with his performance. New England fans also expressed their frustration with the quarterback.
Fans Frustrated With Drake Maye’s Performance Until Half-time
One fan said, “Drake Maye is totally clueless against pressure. He doesn't see it coming and he has never has a hot route ready.” So far in the first half, Maye has taken 3 sacks and lost 30 yards, putting the passing game in serious trouble.
Another user commented, “Drake Maye looks scared!!! Darnold is outplaying him by miles!!! #NEPats #SuperBowlLX.” Looking at the numbers, Seahawks QB Sam Darnold has nearly twice the passing yards (88) in comparison to Maye (48). And by simply getting the ball downfield, the Seahawks have been able to score three field goals. But that’s not all. One fan even threw shade at the Patriots’ entire season.
“Bro scared to throw it. Lived off weak schedule lmaoo. This is the real Drake maye. Mickey mouse a** run no look hahaha.” This was a major criticism the Patriots faced throughout the 2026 season. However, Maye's strong performances against the Texans and Chargers challenge the 'easy schedule' argument.
That’s why some fans have also defended the QB, saying, “People seriously think Drake Maye is supposed to act and play like 37 year old Tom Brady. It’s seriously weird. No matter how this game turns out this is a 23yo QB who has played only his first season as a starter with a completely new coaching staff and coordinator.”
In his first season as a starter, Maye led the team to the Super Bowl. While Tom Brady won a Super Bowl in his second season, being compared to the NFL legend is an achievement in itself for the young Patriots QB.
