The reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks are entering a new era as the Khosla family completes a record $9.6 billion takeover. With NFL approval secured, the franchise is also honoring its late owner's final wish.

"We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks," Vinod Khosla said in a statement per the NFL.com. "We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere."

The statement echoed Paul Allen's long-standing vision of keeping the Seahawks rooted in Seattle.

The Khosla family will become the Seahawks' new controlling owners following the sale. After the death of former owner Paul Allen, the franchise was overseen by his sister, Jody Allen.

According to NFL.com, the Allen estate officially put the Seahawks up for sale on February 18, following the team's second Super Bowl victory.

Paul Allen was instrumental in bringing the Seahawks to Seattle and keeping the franchise there for years. To honor his legacy, the Khosla family has also pledged to keep the team in Seattle.

On top of that, the Seahawks have a lease at Lumen Field that runs through 2032, with three 10-year extension options, and the Khosla family is expected to continue using the stadium in the future as well.

That said, one final hurdle remains: other NFL owners must still approve the purchase agreement before the sale can even proceed. According to ESPN, the vote is expected to take place at an August meeting.

While the ownership transition moves toward final approval, local analysts believe it's still too early to conclude the franchise's new era.

Seattle Seahawks analyst delivers honest take on the team's $9.6 billion sale

The Khosla family is relatively new to Seahawks ownership, having previously been minority owners of the 49ers. Seattle Sports' Mike Salk believes it's still too early to judge them based on the purchase.

“For Seahawks fans, we don’t know enough yet about Khosla as an owner,” Salk said, per Seattle Sports' July 12 report. “But in terms of ownership and his style, we’re going to wait and see. … We’re going to wait and find out and learn a lot more about Khosla over the course of the next weeks, months, and obviously years.”

The Khosla family owns a minority stake in the 49ers and will have to divest those shares before completing the Seahawks purchase. So, it's not as though they lack any NFL ownership experience. But Salk believes it's still too early to judge them.

According to the July 12 report, the Khosla family consisted of Vinod Khosla, his wife Neeru, and their son, Neal.

Per a memo released by the NFL, Neeru Khosla would take over the Seahawks’ controlling ownership role. Neal Khosla would also have “a significant leadership role”.

Once approved by NFL owners, the Khosla family will officially begin the next chapter of Seahawks ownership while carrying forward the commitment Paul Allen envisioned for the franchise.
