The Dallas Cowboys are facing more than just on-field struggles this week. After their 30-44 loss to the Detroit Lions, a new issue started brewing off the field. This time, it involved wide receiver George Pickens and former NFL star Richard Sherman.

The Cowboys, now 6-6-1, are fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. But during the game broadcast, Sherman, now an NFL analyst, criticised Pickens. He said the wideout looked "uninterested" and took a "disengaged" stance during plays. Those comments quickly caught Pickens' attention and sparked a heated response online.

Pickens didn’t stay silent. Soon after hearing Sherman’s remarks, he shot back on social media with several angry messages aimed at the retired cornerback. Although the post was later deleted, many fans saw it before it disappeared.

His frustration was clear, and the situation quickly became the talk of the town among Cowboys fans everywhere. That's when head coach Brian Schottenheimer stepped in.

The Head Coach Cleared the Air

Brian Schottenheimer addressed the situation before it got bigger. "I'm aware of what was supposedly put out there," Schottenheimer told reporters on Friday. "I've not talked to him yet. I understand it's been taken down, but I will be talking to him, just checking on him," he added.

"Again, these are unfortunately things that we deal with in this profession. But I have not spoken to him, but I will." Schottenheimer’s calm response showed his focus wasn’t on drama but on keeping his player steady. The coach wanted to handle things privately and make sure Pickens was okay after all the attention.

The game against Detroit wasn’t Pickens’ best. He finished with 37 receiving yards and didn’t catch a pass of more than ten yards for the first time all season. When CeeDee Lamb left in the second half with a head injury, Detroit’s defenders paid closer attention to Pickens, making his night even harder.

After the game, Pickens didn’t make excuses. He took responsibility and admitted he could have done more. "For myself, personally, you can't just disappear," he said after the game. Those words showed that even in frustration, Pickens understood his role and expectations.

Schottenheimer Defends His Player

Even after reviewing game film, Schottenheimer stood by Pickens. The coach didn’t believe his effort was lacking. Instead, he blamed the whole team for the poor performance.

"I don't think any of us coached or played well enough," Schottenheimer said. "All in all, I'm going to judge George on his body of work, man. His body of work has shown what an elite player he is and what a game-changer he is. I have no question."

Schottenheimer's message was clear: one bad night doesn’t define Pickens. George Pickens joined Dallas this offseason after three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. So far, he’s having a career-best year, putting up personal highs in both receiving yards and touchdowns. His passion and talent are part of what the Cowboys hoped for when they traded for him.

As the Cowboys push to save their season, fans are now watching to see if Pickens can turn this fire into focus. The team needs his energy on the field, not online, if they want to keep their playoff dream alive.
