Russell Wilson Divided Over Jets' Offer as Veteran QB Considers New Role

With the latest offer for the Giants QB Russell Wilson, he could jump from one New York franchise to another. The quarterback has returned from a visit to the New York Jets’ front office with an offer he’s yet to make up his mind on.

In an interview with The New York Post, Wilson gave his take on the proceedings.

“It was great. They offered me, and I'm trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do. I still know I can play ball at a high level, but also I have an opportunity to do TV (analysis), so we'll see what happens.”

Wilson stands at a career crossroads, weighing a one-year contract from the Jets against a high-profile broadcasting offer from CBS. He must choose between a backup role or working as an analyst and leaving his playing career behind.

The 37-year-old QB is currently a New York Giants QB. And if he decides to play, with either team, Wilson would be entering his 15th NFL season.

He ended the 2025 season with just six game appearances. Wilson recorded 831 yards, three touchdowns on 119 pass attempts, and three interceptions.

His performance last season sticks out like a sore thumb on an otherwise illustrious career spanning three franchises- the Seattle Seahawks, the Denver Broncos, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Last year, he was replaced by rookie Jaxson Dart. And if he agrees to don the Jets’ green jersey, he would be QB1 Geno Smith’s backup. When asked about this depth chart arrangement, Wilson reportedly said, “Geno is a great friend,” and made no further comments.

The two were teammates in the Seattle Seahawks between 2019 and 2021. As per the Jets HC Aaron Glenn, they have established that Smith, who is returning after a season with the Las Vegas Raiders, is their starting quarterback.

The Jets Believe That Geno Smith Is “Perfect”

The AFC franchise drafted Geno Smith in 2013. He played till the 2016 season and returned to a warm welcome this season.

Frank Reich, the Jets’ new offensive coordinator, has showered Smith with praise.

“I think he fits perfect. I’ve liked Geno from day one,” Reich said in a presser, via the Jets’ official website. “When he was coming out of West Virginia, I had a high grade on Geno. I had not met Geno before here, and I’m kind of glad because I’m even more impressed with him, now meeting him in person.

Smith last had a one-year stint with the Raiders, which ended with 19 touchdowns, 17 interceptions, and 3,025 yards.

Meanwhile, the Jets had a tough year, too. With Aaron Glenn as their head coach, the Jets ended with a 3-14 record. While Smith is decidedly their QB1, the Jets are still on the hunt for a backup.

And in the meantime, only Russell knows if it would be him. Do you think he would accept the offer? Tell us in the comments!
