Rich Eisen Thrashes Cleveland Browns Over Proposed NFL Resolution

The Cleveland Browns general manager, Andrew Berry, has submitted a new NFL rule change proposal that jumps out at NFL analyst Rich Eisen.

On The Rich Eisen Show, he discussed how he felt about the proposal by saying,

“The last thing the NFL should do is NBA up their draft.”

With just 8 wins in the last two years, the Browns have the 6th and 24th overall picks. This could help Todd Monken rebuild the roster. In the meantime, Berry thought it essential to propose another NFL rule change.

The rule would allow teams to trade draft picks five years in advance, an increase from the current 3-year limit.

“Cleveland wants to allow draft selections to be traded up to five seasons in the future, which is the dumbest thing I've ever heard,” Eisen stated.

“You should not allow a team to trade something so deep into the future. It’s just absurd. If you do something like this, you’re going to handcuff a team’s ability to actually replace the GM that needs to be replaced or the coach that needs to be replaced.”

As per Eisen, there is a need to save some franchises from themselves, and he even took a shot at the Browns, saying,

“Of course, it's the Browns coming up with this idea because they're the ones that are going to blow all these draft choices on the wrong guy, just like they did, say Deshaun Watson.”

That all being said, Rich Eisen admitted, “I am now saying potentially mea culpa to the Browns.”

Why Are The Browns Proposing This NFL Rule Change?

Rich Eisen continued the segment after understanding what the Cleveland Browns must be reaching for.

The league's dominant pass rusher, Myles Garrett, had expressed his desire to be traded after the team’s 2024 performance. But the Browns signed a four-year, $160 million extension with him, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history at that time.

Eisen pointed out that if a team already expects to receive two or three first-round picks for someone like Garrett, he wondered why there couldn’t be a rule allowing franchises to ask for even more, potentially including draft selections several years into the future.

According to Eisen, very few players could push another team to reach that deep into its draft pockets, and Garrett might be one of them.

He stated, “Maybe the Browns are playing 4D chess with this proposal.”
