Ravens Star Faces Backlash for 'President' Comment Amid Offseason
The NFL community is in uproar against the Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey.
His recent comments about wanting to play golf with President Donald Trump have resulted in major backlash.
On Wednesday, Humphrey made an X post sharing that he has reached Florida and asked for Trump’s whereabouts, calling him “my president.”
“Just pulled up to Palm Beach. Where my president at . Let’s golf..!” he wrote.
Fans’ livid reactions or disbelief over Humphrey’s comments are a result of Trump’s unstable presidency marred by many controversies and serious allegations.
Currently, the Trump administration is focused on resolving issues in Florida, also the address of Trump’s residential Mar-a-Lago estate. Humphrey was visiting the state in the offseason after a decent year in the NFL.
In the last season, the 29-year-old made 68 tackles, out of which 53 were solo. He recorded two forced fumbles and caught four interceptions. And his performance was not devoid of injuries. He has multiple but short-term injuries across the season, such as an injured finger, calf pain, and a knee injury.
While he had no concussions or taken hits to the head, Humphrey’s ‘President’ comment prompted a curt reaction from a football fan.
“When they find out you got CTE ima claim i was the first one to see the signs.”
Unlike other fans raging against Humphrey, this X user said these were the early signs of Humphrey’s brain damage, as CTE is Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. And it is caused by repeated head injuries.
Can Fans Look Past Humphrey and Other NFL Players’ Stance on President Trump?
Though Humphrey has never suffered any head injury whatsoever since his draft. He was a first-round pick made by the Ravens in the 2017 Draft. Since then, Humphrey has appeared in six postseason games and played in eight games. He started seven games and contributed 25 tackles in these games.
But despite his impressive performances and track record, many NFL fans are angry at Humphrey, who previously showed support for him. He posted “Trump took a bullet for America” after the President’s horrific incident during one of his campaigns.
And as for golf, Trump was most recently seen playing the sport with several Buffalo Bills players after hosting the USA Men's ice hockey team.
Since his recent controversy, Humphrey had neither acknowledged it nor issued any statement. Fans are deeply unhappy. What was your reaction to the cornerback’s comment? Share it in the comments.
