Ravens Aim to Poach Jim Schwartz as Divisional Rivals Make Massive Move

It looks like NFL coaching drama has taken center stage in the AFC North!

The Browns had already interviewed Jim Schwartz for the head coach role. Now it's the Ravens who want a talk with him, as per journalist Tom Pelissero.

"The Ravens requested an interview with Browns DC Jim Schwartz for their head coaching job, per source. Schwartz also interviewed for Cleveland’s head coaching job and the team doesn’t want to lose him. But their AFC North rivals will speak with him."

For Schwartz, it could be a homecoming. He was born just outside of Baltimore, and his first coaching job in the NFL came with the Ravens as the outside linebackers' coach from 1996-1998.

More importantly for the Ravens, Schwartz has revolutionized the Browns' defense. Under him, they have gone 45 straight games without allowing a 300-yard passer, one of the longest active streaks in the NFL. In 2025, the defense set the franchise record with 53 sacks. Myles Garrett broke the NFL single-season sack record with 23.

However, his previous head coaching record presents a notable risk. While he is a great defensive coordinator, his records as a head coach have not been that great. He became Lions head coach in 2009 after an 0-16 season and went 2-14 in Year 1, with just one winning season in the five years he spent there.

Jim Schwartz isn't the only Browns coach the Ravens are after

The Ravens have also interviewed former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, soon after firing Harbaugh. His last two seasons with the Browns were bad. But he also led them to their first playoff appearance since 2002 in his first season (2020) and their first playoff win since 1994.

He was also named AP NFL Coach of the Year twice (2020 and 2023), becoming just one of 16 coaches in NFL history to win it multiple times. He is also the first Browns coach since the 1999 reboot to beat the Steelers three times.

These potential moves could dramatically shift the balance of power in the AFC North. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
