"Put 'em back in their place": Analyst Delivers Sharp Take on Shedeur Sanders' Draft Slide
Shedeur Sanders dropping to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft surprised many fans. While some pointed out his on-field flaws, the crew at 'The Arena: Gridiron' believes there's a much deeper, more systemic issue at play.
During an episode of the talk show, NFL analyst Skip Bayless expressed his disappointment when a talent like Shedeur slid to the fifth round.
"What the NFL did to Shadur Sanders to punish him and his father, to teach them a lesson, to put them in their place," Bayless stated. "That's what happened."
The analysts strongly dismissed those rumors about Shedeur giving bad interviews or wearing headphones during meetings.
They felt these narratives were exaggerated excuses used by all the front offices to avoid drafting a quarterback with attitude issues. During his four-year collegiate career, Sanders threw for more than 14,000 yards and 150 touchdowns.
Former Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib displayed his frustration regarding the massive double standards during the league's evaluation process.
After Skip referred to Sanders' attitude as the "good ol' boy network", Talib agreed with the sentiments, stating the league does not want players with personality issues like Shedeur.
In spite of finishing his Colorado run with 7,364 passing yards and 64 touchdowns, Shedeur tumbled down the draft order until the Cleveland Browns grabbed him at the 144th spot.
The Ripple Effects of Sanders' Unexpected Draft Slide
Despite being projected as a first-round pick, Shedeur Sanders slid all the way to the fifth round, when the Browns drafted him with the 144th pick.
After his slide, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Will Howard explained how his slide affected other quarterbacks' chances of getting drafted.
“It was really that whole Shedeur situation, kinda. His sliding really hurt a lot of the other quarterbacks in our class," Howard stated. "Just because he was ranked a little higher, so nobody wanted to take guys like me, or Riley Leonard, or Kyle McCord, Quinn Ewers."
However, the unexpected draft day chaos wasn't just difficult on the other prospects. His draft slide massively affected his father, the two-time Super Bowl champion and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Deion Sanders.
In an exclusive interview on the Bush's Barber Shop podcast, Coach Prime shared his take on his draft slide and how he felt 'helpless' regarding the entire situation.
"That was the 1st time in my life that I couldn't fix it. He wanted me to fix it, and I didn't have the power to fix it," Sanders said. "I felt like I wasn't there for my son."
