Pressure on Browns QB Increases Because of Andrew Berry's Draft Decision

The Cleveland Browns are in their rebuilding phase, drafting several players in this year's draft and signing several players in the free agency. However, the latest take from a Browns expert hold the Browns' offense accountable.

92.3 The Fan's host Spencer German discussed the improvements the Browns made in the primary offense. He also highlighted the need for good signal-calling and a 'franchise quarterback' for the future.

“Now, there's not an excuse. Now, you have an offensive line, theoretically. You've made that group better,” German said. “You obviously addressed the wide receiver group. If you just get competent quarterback play, there's now a team around the quarterback that can get them going in the right direction and maybe make some noise.”

The Browns' offense was ranked 31st overall last season and posted a 5-12 record. Therefore, it was necessary for the front office to address several gaps in their offensive roster in this year's draft.

Their top draft picks: OL Spencer Fano and WRs KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston are expected to make an immediate impact in their linemen and wide receiver rooms respectively.

Fano has to surpass the standard veteran guard Joel Bittonio had set in his decade-long career with the Browns. Meanwhile, the newest WRs are expected to perform better than Jerry Jeudy’s two touchdowns and 602 receiving yards last season.

Dual-threat quarterback Taylen Green is yet to find his place on the Browns' QB depth chart, as the Browns primarily decide between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson for the QB1 spot.

The Browns will evaluate their rookies' performance in the upcoming rookie minicamp, scheduled for May 8. The expectations to do well cannot be ignored, and that is why Berry has a clear philosophy in mind for his players.

GM's Take On The Versatility of Browns' Rookies

On their YouTube page, the Cleveland Browns shared a clip of Andrew Berry speaking to the reporters, discussing the versatility of the Browns’ rookies.

“It's actually honestly a little bit of a delicate balance. Todd talks about it…where the excitement can be a while like when we select this guy, he can do this…that,” Berry said. “You don't wanna spread them too thin through early. So we'll probably start them off in kind of one spot.”

Despite concerns of 'over-training' the players before their debut, Berry is 'excited' about the potential and versatility of his players.

He also earned high praise for the turnout this season. According to a report from Dawg Pound Daily, Berry managed to pull off stunning moves in the draft.

“On average, the Browns drafted players who should've been selected four spots earlier than where they got them.”

Draft analyst Dante Walker used Pro Football Network's consensus board to determine Berry's successful draft decisions.

According to PFN's consensus big board, Boston was supposed to be drafted 30th overall, but fell to Cleveland's 39th pick, representing a plus-9 value pick for the Browns.

His stance to fortify players against pressure in their rookie season is firm, so how well they fare this year will be interesting to see. What are your thoughts?
