Philip Rivers Could Make the Leap From Player to NFL Head Coach, Sources Say

It looks like Philip Rivers' return to Indianapolis could just be the first move in changing his NFL career.
NFL Insider Ian Rapoport revealed there is a chance the QB could become a head coach.
"Several sources say Rivers could end up as a head coach candidate this cycle and the current belief is that Rivers gets at least one opportunity to interview, possibly more. Only two teams currently have head coach openings - the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans - though that number is expected to grow after Sunday."
Rapoport was right. The Browns sacked head coach Kevin Stefanski. There are three teams in the mix. It's been done before. Marty Schottenheimer went from playing as a linebacker to coaching teams like the Browns and the Chiefs.
Rivers had some success as a high school football coach. At St. Michael Catholic in Fairhope, he built their football program, even taking the team.
He even left the door open on a potential coaching job. When he appeared on Up and Adams, he discussed his future in the sport.
"The one thing I’ve loved since I was however old playing this game and being now as a coach is I’ve been able to have some impact on the score. And, for me, it’s like you might be good at it, talking about it, but I have nothing to do with the outcome of this game."
There's an alternative path for Philip Rivers
Instead of coaching or playing, Rivers was asked if he would take up broadcasting, perhaps even becoming a commentator.
“I've not ruled it out. I’ve not ruled it out. But every opportunity that’s been close to coming or has come up just hasn’t felt right. I haven’t completely ruled it out. I do think that I would enjoy that. I just don’t know.”
Only a few weeks ago, Rivers was teary-eyed and shared his feelings on his last game in the league after returning from his four-year retirement. We'll just have to wait and find out if he stays.
