Patrick Mahomes vs Dak Prescott Clash Breaks NFL Record with 57.2 Million Viewers in Regular Season
If you watched the Thanksgiving game between the Chiefs and the Cowboys, you know there was plenty of action. A Cowboys comeback combined with a Post Malone show on Thanksgiving? It doesn't get better than that. But did you know the game actually broke NFL viewership records?
According to CBS Sports, the Chiefs and Cowboys game was the most-watched NFL regular-season game in league history. A huge 57.23 million people tuned in to watch Dak Prescott face off against Patrick Mahomes in a thrilling 31-28 game that felt like a playoff preview. At one point , viewership hit its peak at 61.357 million between 7.45 pm-8 pm ET. And it was all part of the plan.
According to CBS Sports president and CEO David Berson, Hans Schroeder's (NFL's Executive Vice President of Media Distribution) planning and the exciting game were a perfect combination.

It's no surprise CBS is happy. The broadcast broke the old record by 36%, beating the 2022 Giants-Cowboys Thanksgiving game that had 42.059 million viewers on Fox. And they're not alone.
According to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, "It's probably a bigger number than we projected, but again, I think we're now measuring an audience that wasn't measured before, which is obviously helpful. We also had great matchups and great games all the way through the weekend. We're going to have a weekend that will be the most-viewed weekend in the history of the NFL."
Well, he's not wrong. It wasn't just the Cowboys-Chiefs game making record.
Fox and NBC Weren't Far Behind in The Numbers
Over on Fox, another record was set. 47.7 million people tuned in to watch the Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions. FOX called it their most-watched regular-season game ever, with viewership peaking at 57.957 million between 4 and 4:15 p.m. ET. It was the perfect combination of a surprise win and a classic rivalry that fans couldn’t look away from.
And the excitement didn’t stop at night. On NBC, Joe Burrow made his big return, and fans loved every moment of it. 28.4 million viewers watched the Cincinnati Bengals take down the Baltimore Ravens. NBC said the game averaged 28.4 million across NBC, Peacock, and Telemundo.

In short, Thanksgiving football made history. Fans got amazing games, networks broke viewing records, and the NFL proved once again why it’s the most-watched sport in the country. There is a saying that every Thanksgiving has its own story, and this one surely did.
