“Overrated”: NFL Fans Rip Brandon Aiyuk Over Cryptic Message
Amidst uncertainty over his career, Brandon Aiyuk’s statement against the San Francisco 49ers has caught a lot of attention. In a video message over a minute long, the wide receiver made some strong comments.
In an X post captioned “Stop running from the belt. The belt coming,” NFL insider Ari Meriov shared Aiyuk’s statement on June 7.
“We dealing with them kids and they don't get picked for the basketball game at the court. But they the ones that brought the ball, so they like all right, you don't want to pick me, I'm taking my ball, I'm going home. A** boys little a** boys…Stop running from the belt. The belt coming,” the WR said in his latest Instagram post.
Just a day before he posted the above video, on June 6, he had uploaded an Instagram story sporting a Washington Commanders cap. In his next story, he was holding a ball with a emojis filled message.
NBC Sports Bay Area translated it as “Stop the cap, the gig is up.”
The 28-year-old appears to hold a strong grudge against the 49ers, who have voided the guarantees in his contract. That means three years remain on his deal, but it no longer includes any guaranteed money. Aiyuk sustained a serious knee injury and hasn’t played since Week 7 in 2024.
While his initial absence was valid, reports of prolonged absence and contract breaches soon emerged. Then, 49ers’ general manager John Lynch confirmed that his contract will be voided, resulting in a loss of $27 million for Aiyuk. They have yet to release him.
His outrage at the 49ers has not been received well by fans, who called him out.
Fans Call Out Brandon Aiyuk After His Latest Message
Under NFL insider Ari Meriov’s X post, fans strongly criticized Brandon Aiyuk for his comments on the San Francisco 49ers. One comment called him out for his absence even after landing a 4-year, $120 million contract extension in 2024.
“Dude is an absolutely overrated overpaid fool. If he ever plays again, it be for a year, maybe 2, long enough for everyone to realize his prime got wasted away. Dude couldn't handle the big money. He got rich and lazy, kinda like Connor McGregor, just not as big of a name.”
“He’s going to be a cancer on his team this year sounds like he’s pulling A brown on his team, lol, another unhappy wide receiver diva,” one commented on his attitude.
Another reply along these lines compared him to Antonio Brown. The wide receiver’s stellar career has been marred by leaving multiple franchises and off-field controversies.
“This dude is legit Antonio Brown, without nearly the body of good work. Anyone willing to trade or pay more than a McDonald's value meal for him is stupid,” the reply said.
“Contracts are written out and signed for reasons...You get everything you have coming! Go Niners!” another replied.
One comment spoke passionately against Aiyuk for calling the franchise the names he did.
“Whos this weirdo talking to?? You are NEVER GOING TO GET A GOLD JACKET..NOT DESERVING OR TALENTED ENOUGH..you a wr2 at best..'lil a** boy ' who can't finish a contract…#NinerGang,” they wrote.
49ers’ fans are raging against Aiyuk’s attitude towards the franchise and the decisions they have made recently. What are your thoughts on his trajectory? Tell us in the comments.
