Odell Beckham Jr's Career Takes Drastic Turn After 1-Year Absence

Odell Beckham Jr’s early success and the subsequent fallout with the New York Giants were a chapter best forgotten. Now, however, there is a chance of the controversial WR coming back.
After a year of no activity from Beckham, ESPN's Peter Schrager was optimistic about the wideout's return to New York being “very much in play," but it will take some time. In his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Schrager elaborated on how it is a win-win deal for all.
“Look, not only do they need a receiver, and not only does Odell want to be back in the NFL, and I think the Giants would be a great place," the analyst said. "There's still a lot of love for Odell Beckham in that Giants organization."
The Giants picked Beckham in 2014, and he was an instant success there. Beckham recorded over 1000 passing yards three years in a row. The WR was a key part of the offense during his entire tenure at New York. But his off-field antics played a huge part in the untimely split with him in 2021.
The WR is known for his temper outbursts during games, and has been fined for conduct and even touchdown celebrations multiple times in the league. In the 2016 season alone, Beckham had racked up more than $127,000 in fines.
The receiver was waived by the Browns in 2021 and has since played with the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens, and Miami Dolphins. But in 2025, Odell Beckham Jr. was suspended for six games after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. The WR claimed he never consumed the drugs. But Beckham did not play that season at all.
In New York, things are also panning out in a way that allows for Beckham to come back. Giants wideout Malik Nabers needs immediate help, and an electric and veteran receiver like Odell Beckham Jr. solves the problem instantly. Moreover, his connection with head coach John Harbaugh is also a factor.
What Have the Giants’ Decision Makers Said About Beckham’s Comeback
In the annual NFL meeting held in Arizona, Beckham reportedly met with the team. Harbaugh then shared that the two of them share a great rapport.
“He and I do talk. We do text,” Harbaugh said. “We've maintained a really great relationship. He's one of my very favorite people in the world. It's not like you don't talk to guys on things like that.
The latter half of his career and absence from the 2025 season are certainly a roadblock, but the franchise is open to "see him work out,” general manager Joe Schoen said in March.
Beckham would certainly have to clean up after his past acts if he is given a chance to revive his career with the team that started it. Do you think he would do well again this time around?
