Not Ty Simpson, NFL Analyst Names Surprising Shedeur Sanders Replacement
For quite a while now, there has been buzz around Ty Simpson that he could be the one replacing Shedeur Sanders. But an NFL Analyst does not believe so.
Nathan Zegura has said that the Cleveland Browns might not go for Simpson in the 2026 NFL Draft. He quoted a rather surprising name.
"Could Ty Simpson be somebody that really intrigues them that they think is a real, likely answer? Possibly. Would I be surprised if he was taken in the 1st round by the Cleveland Browns? Yes, I would. What I think is more likely is a guy like Drew Allar, who the Browns were very, very high on."
Sure, Simpson does look like a great player to replace Shedeur Sanders. But the Browns also need to get an offensive lineman. So most probably, they might go for that with their 6th pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft, and it looks like Simpson won't be available in round 2.
On the other side, Drew Allar sure does look like an attractive option.
He played the quarterback for the Penn State Nittany Lions and recorded 7,402 passing yards, 61 passing TDs, and 13 interceptions in 45 games. The QB has 633 completions on 1,002 attempts, plus 736 rushing yards and 12 rushing TDs in 45 games throughout his collegiate career.
In 2025, Allar suffered a season-ending ankle injury vs Northwestern, ending his college career early. But there are no fewer accolades to his name. He is an all-time number 1 at Penn State in completion percentage (62.9) and interception percentage (1.19).
But despite all that, if it comes down to Ty Simpson and Drew Allar, the former has an advantage over the latter because of his connections to Browns head coach, Todd Monken.
Simpson's Connection to Monken Might End Up With Him Replacing Shedeur Sanders
Ty Simpson’s father, Jason Simpson, is a college football coach. He and Todd Monken have known each other for years and stay in contact. Plus, when Monken was offensive coordinator at Georgia, he visited Ty Simpson’s high school and recruited him, which strengthened the connection with the family.
Simpson has also praised Monken. "I know he loves football, and I know that's what I love as well. Super smart guy...what he did with Lamar (Jackson) and at Georgia, it's just super real. So, a lot of respect for him and the Browns organization. I think they've made a great hire," he said at the 2026 NFL Combine.
On March 5, the Browns also welcomed Ty Simpson to their headquarters in Berea, Ohio.
Do you think he will be the one replacing Shedeur Sanders? Or would you choose Drew Allar? Or do you have some other name in your mind? Let us know in the comments!
