When the NFL announced that it would not hold a Supplemental draft this year, the league doused Brendan Sorsby’s plans to begin his pro football career. However, all hope is not lost as an NFLPA executive has made a statement backing him up.

“The NFLPA is conducting due diligence regarding the denial of Brendan Sorsby's application for the supplemental draft. Tretter emphasizes the importance of protecting the integrity of the CBA and ensuring the league does not establish a negative precedent,” JC Tretter, the fifth executive director in the NFLPA, said.

Tretter discussed Sorsby, among other topics, during his appearance on The Rich Eisen Show on June 26. 

On June 23, the NFL announced its plans for this season’s supplemental draft, which was going to be the controversial quarterback’s door to pro football. Sorsby, 22, was deemed ineligible to play with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The NCAA had banned him for violating rules against g*******. 

Sorsby, 22, had wagered over $90,000 in over four years in college and pro games. In 2022, he had placed b*** on the Indiana Hoosiers, his former team.

However, Sorsby was eventually granted a temporary injunction to resume football activities at Texas Tech.

The program, however, parted ways with the quarterback, leading him to declare for the NFL. As he faces the closed door, Tretter has promised a thorough due diligence from the NFLPA’s side. 

“Yeah, first off, obviously, Brennan is not a member of the NFLPA right now. He is going to be in the future. I think our job, as we've not been involved in these discussions up until this point, is to make sure we do our due diligence and understand,” he said.

The NFL won’t be taking him in, at least this season. Apart from the NFL, another league has shut its doors too.

The Canadian Football League makes its stance on Brendan Sorsby known

Senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Canadian Football League (CFL) has announced that it won’t be allowing any team to sign Brendan Sorsby.

“The CFL will not allow Brendan Sorsby to join its league this season,” he shared in an X post on June 26.

According to ESPN, Sorsby has not revealed whether he is interested in the CFL. They, on the flip side, are certainly not interested in him joining the league. 

“Upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring fair competition are paramount to the CFL,” the CFL stated to USA Today. “The allegations involving Brendan Sorsby are serious and concerning. At this time, the CFL will not register a contract for him, and no team will be permitted to add him to its negotiation list,” their statement read further.

Sorsby ended his college career with 2,800 passing yards and 28 passing touchdowns against five interceptions. He also recorded 100 carries for 550 rushing yards and nine rushing TDs.
