NFL Standout DJ Chark Hangs Up Cleats in Sudden Retirement
As teams prepare for a busy 2026 season, Pro Bowl wide receiver DJ Chark calls it a day from the National Football League.
In a heartfelt Instagram post made on Friday, Chark announced his retirement from football.
“After much contemplation, I have decided to share a proper farewell as I navigate retirement. My Journey began at the age of 7 when I signed up for football, unaware of the profound impact it would have on my life.”
The wide receiver spent seven seasons as a pro, playing for various teams throughout his career. The Louisiana native was a former second-round pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Chark further added, "I simply loved the sport and had the unwavering support of my parents. Years later, I received the support of my wife, kids, family, and thousands of fans.”
The former Pro Bowler played 76 games throughout his career. Chark has 216 receptions for 3,100 yards and has recorded 24 touchdowns to his name.
The wide receiver was once considered a top prospect ahead of the 2018 draft coming out of Louisiana State University (LSU). He began his NFL journey with the Jaguars and subsequently joined the Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Atlanta Falcons.
However, constant injuries have been costing Chark matches. The Atlanta Falcons signed him to a 1-year deal last year and then dropped him within weeks. He has previously suffered from broken ankles and a hip/groin injury, which probably forced him to retire early.
Chark’s retirement post further reads, “The possibilities ahead are endless, and that excites me. I am grateful for all my teammates, fans, and every organization I have had the privilege to play for. All glory goes to God; I am forever thankful.”
His post left many fans emotional. Several NFL players also joined in, sending their love and saying their farewell to a veteran player of the game.
How are some players reacting to the news?
DJ Chark’s retirement post received a lot of emotion and love. Many players chimed in on the post by commenting and showing their love and appreciation for Chark.

While another fellow wide receiver, Michael Gallup, commented, “A true legend and added a fingers-crossed emoji.”
Running back D’Andre Swift commented, “My Boy,” on the retirement post.
While another receiver, Jamal Agnew, said, “My dawgggg.” The wide receivers' association comes together and shares moments with one of their own.
It is not known what Chark plans to do in the future, but he will surely be missed from the game.
