“NFL Players Are Homeless”: 2x Patriots Super Bowl Winner Exposes Harsh Reality

Just a few days ago, the NFL world was shaken by the shocking demise of former Eagles lineman Kevin Johnson. Saddened by the tragedy, Asante Samuel wrote about how not every ex-NFL player finds fortune and fame after taking that helmet off for the last time.
The two-time Super Bowl winner, Asante Samuel, wrote that many former football players struggle after retiring.
"NFL players are homeless these days… NFL has to do better, man… Too much money coming in to let ex-players suffer," Smauel wrote in his post.
Unfortunately, the 55-year-old was another name added to the list. Former NFL players like Mike Webster, Joe Gilliam, and Titus Young have suffered major injuries and CTE.
Although Samuel displayed concern for his peers, the fans' opinions are quite divided. While some agreed with his sentiments, others found it hard to show sympathy towards stars who couldn't handle the fame.
Asante Samuel Doubled Down on His Statement
The former Patriots stars' statement following Kevin Johnson's passing garnered a lot of backlash from a section of fans. However, Samuel did not back down in the face of negativity.
The former Eagles player took to X and responded. He claimed that the many fans didn't know what the athletes go through when they put their bodies on the line.
"Being in a car wreck every week for 10 plus years isn’t that easy to overcome people. Go hang with some of these ex players who are not on the internet and get back with me," he resonded.
An Associated Press report following DL Kevin Johnson's demise highlighted his struggles. "Friends said Johnson had health issues later in life that contributed to his situation," the AP report claimed.
So it's safe to say, Samuel, who enjoyed a decade-long career and two Super Bowls with the Patriots, had a point.
