NFL News Roundup: Jalen Hurts Left Frustrated, Mayfield Suffers Major Blow, and Much More
Sunday’s NFL action delivered surprise wins, epic comebacks, and potentially season-changing injuries for some. Baker Mayfield suffered a major blow, while Jalen Hurts, who has racked up 2,284 yards and 17 touchdowns, got frustrated during the Week 12 game. So let’s explore the reasons behind his frustration and dive into more surprises from Week 12.
Jalen Hurts Urges Eagles to Do Better
After Sunday’s 24-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Jalen Hurts spoke honestly about what went wrong and what the team needs to do moving forward. Hurts reflected on the team’s performance, calling it “definitely the tale of two halves.” He completed 27 of 39 passes for 289 yards and one touchdown, showing flashes of his usual effectiveness but not enough to secure the win.
Jalen Hurts acknowledged that the Eagles didn’t play a complete game together and that it ultimately cost them the victory. “We've got to find a way to finish the game, and we've got to find some consistency in what we do,” he said.

Hurts stressed accountability and resilience, urging his teammates to use the loss as motivation. “We've got to own this one, let it light a fire in us as a team and stay together and move forward,” he said. Even as the
Mayfield's Injury Major Concern for Buccaneers
Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield sprained his left shoulder during Sunday night’s 34-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He did not play in the second half and is set for an MRI on Monday to see how serious the injury is.
Mayfield had led a touchdown drive late in the second quarter but went to the medical tent after aggravating his non-throwing shoulder. Coach Todd Bowles said, “He hurt it earlier, said he was fine, went back, and then reaggravated it on the last play of the first half.”
Before leaving, Mayfield was 9-of-19 for 41 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Teddy Bridgewater replaced him and completed 8-of-15 passes for 62 yards. Bowles said, “Very confident in what Teddy can do. With a full week of practice, taking every snap, we think he'll be fine.”
Bridgewater, who had just flown in from Miami after a funeral, praised Mayfield’s toughness. “You never want to see guys injured, especially your leader. But Baker’s a tough guy. He tried to come back out there. That says a lot about him and this team.”
Prescott Surpasses Romo as Cowboys' Leading Passer
Dak Prescott has firmly cemented his place in Cowboys history, leaving legendary names in his wake. From “Dandy” Don Meredith to Hall of Famers Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman, and then Tony Romo, Prescott has now become Dallas’ all-time leading passer.
He broke Romo’s record of 34,183 career passing yards on Sunday with a 9-yard completion to George Pickens in the third quarter. It was part of a 354-yard performance in a thrilling 24-21 comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Coming into the game, Prescott needed 160 yards to surpass Romo, and he achieved it, finishing with 34,378 career passing yards.

Over his 10 seasons all with Dallas, he has topped 2,500 passing yards eight times, including a massive 4,902-yard campaign in 2019, just one yard short of Romo’s single-season record of 4,903. Some critics point out that the team hasn’t gone far in the playoffs, with four division titles and five playoff appearances.
However, Prescott’s personal achievements are impressive. He was the 2018 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, has made three Pro Bowls, passed for over 3,500 yards in five seasons, and thrown 30 or more touchdowns three times. Now, with his name at the top of Dallas’ record books, Prescott is officially one of the franchise’s all-time greats.
Tomlin Drops Big Update on Rodgers' Return
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he expects Aaron Rodgers to play next week against the Buffalo Bills. Rodgers did not play on Sunday because he has a fractured left wrist. Mason Rudolph started in his place.
Tomlin said, "I think he will be ready for next week. It was the smart choice to sit him out this game. I'm hopeful he will be ready." Rodgers practiced a little during the week with a wrist brace. During the game, he stayed on the sidelines and helped guide his teammates.
Center Zach Frazier said, "He was active in the game, telling us what he saw and helping us make decisions." Rudolph, making his first start since Week 17 last season, threw 24 of 31 passes for 171 yards. He scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter but also threw an interception and fumbled once.
Rudolph said, "I was just trying to give DK a fair chance to start the game." Even though Pittsburgh had a late drive, they couldn’t get close enough for a field goal. Tomlin did not say if Rudolph’s performance would change Rodgers’ return. He said, "I’ll talk about next week next week. Right now, I’m focused on what just happened."
And that just about wraps up some the Week 12's biggest highlights. Tell us what you thought of this roundup in the comments.
