Sorsby's decision comes after concerns about his NCAA eligibility emerged this offseason.

The 22-year-old entered the transfer portal after two productive seasons at Cincinnati Bearcats. Between 2024 and 2025, he threw for 5,600 yards and 45 touchdowns and added 18 rushing scores for the Bearcats.

The immediate storyline is around the NFL's silence, but Sorsby's decision sheds light on the difficult position he faced.

Why Sorsby Chose the Supplemental Draft Route

The quarterback, who opted for the supplemental draft after uncertainty surrounding his eligibility continued to grow, as per NBC Sports.

Sorsby chose not to lose a season while legal and NCAA matters played out, which led him to pursue a professional opportunity.

Sorsby addressed the situation in a public statement after announcing his decision.

"I am grateful for the support from my family, my Tech coaching staff, teammates, the community and so many others who have encouraged me to address and learn more about this important issue," Sorsby said.

He also made it clear that his focus has not changed despite the circumstances.

"As my journey continues, I remain fully committed to and focused on being the best I can be both on and off the field," he added.
