NFL Insider Reveals How Cleveland Browns Have Been Dealing With Myles Garrett’s Exit

On June 1, the Browns made a blockbuster trade with the Rams. Myles Garrett, the star defensive player who was with the Browns for nine long years, was on his way to Los Angeles.

In return, the Browns received defensive end Jared Verse and multiple draft picks for 2027-2029. NFL insider Spencer German revealed how the Browns coped with the departure of their two-time Defensive Player of the Year, who made history in 2025 with 23 sacks in a single season.

“I really do think the Browns handled this in a very professional and businesslike way, where it was like, Myles was great. We like playing with him, but we gotta work,” said German to host Anthony Moeglin, on the Roundtable Sports interview last night.

German added that the Browns focused on Jared Verse coming in and called him “a great leader” soon after. Jacques Cesaire, the defensive line coach, discussed how it felt like Verse had been with the Browns for five years already, given how he had integrated and acclimated himself with the group.

German went on to praise the Browns’ head coach, Todd Monken, and his staff for the ability to keep everyone focused on what’s in front of them and what they’re currently working on, especially during the minicamp.

The NFL insider added that the Myles Garrett trade would’ve gone the other way around. The Browns traded generational talent, but the aftereffects of it didn’t impact the team in any way. The roster continued to work hard to have good practices and execute things correctly.

Moeglin appreciated Browns’ general manager, Andrew Berry, for identifying the need to do a media tour after the Garrett-Verse trade, which sent shockwaves across the league.

Andrew Berry Reveals What Made the Garrett Trade Possible

Browns’ general manager, Andrew Berry, held a press conference less than 24 hours after dealing Garrett to the LA Rams.

“I’ll be honest. I did not have this press conference on my bingo card for this summer,” said Berry to reporters, adding that he still finds the Garrett-Verse trade hard to believe.

Berry further told reporters that he looked at the trade in terms of the short-term and long-term benefits it had for the team. He added that he was adamant on never trading Garrett, but revealed three criteria he had set to ever consider trading the DE.

“No.1, it would have to have short and long-term benefits. No.2, a young cost-controlled star at a premium position must be included,” shared Berry. “The third piece is that there would be premium draft capital.”

The GM shared that the Browns were pleased with the return they got. Jared Verse’s calibre and the pick considerations made for an “excellent” deal.

Berry concluded by saying that he believes there are players on the roster who will receive the same amount of love, if not more, and have a strong fan base like the one Garrett built in Cleveland.
