NFL Insider Reveals Browns' Biggest Requirement as Head Coach Search Continues

The Browns' coaching hunt continues after firing Kevin Stefanski, and an NFL insider has revealed what they might be looking for.

ESPN analyst Adam Schefter appeared on the ESPN Cleveland podcast and said that they must look for a coach with an offensive mind.

"In a perfect world, you'd like somebody with an offensive background, assuming you can't get John Harbaugh. If you get John Harbaugh, I end the story. But if you can't, I think you'd want somebody, ideally, with an offensive background."

The Ravens have fired Harbaugh, and the Browns must love to bring in a Super Bowl-winning HC who was born in Cleveland and grew up with hardcore Browns fans. But if they can't, Schefter clarified why they must go for someone with an offensive background.

"And I say that because I think Jim Schwartz is somebody that's really respected and coveted around the league...Who's going to coach the defense better than Jim Schwartz, no matter who you hire? And so now if you hire a defense, now you lose Jim Schwartz. We still have to address the offense. Not ideal."

Kevin Stefanski himself had an Offensive mind. While he looked at offense, Schwartz had tremendous success with the Browns' defense. They will not want to lose him. He guided Myles Garrett to set the NFL single-season sack record with 23 sacks and the team to a franchise record of 53.

Under him, the team had the NFL’s best defense in 2023. On the other hand, the team has struggled on the offensive end a lot. They had the second-lowest PPG of the league (16.4) and the third-lowest TDs scored (30) in the season. A offesnive minded head coach with Tommy Rees as the OC can work wonders for the team.

The Browns might be following the same path after firing Kevin Stefanski

The insiders have been continuously reporting on who the Browns camp is considering for the next head coach. And from that, it does feel like the team is looking for an offensive mind.

Insiders have reported that the Browns have called thier OC Tommy Rees for an interview as the HC. Also, according to the NFL Network, they have also requested to interview Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

The Browns hired Todd Monken as their offensive coordinator under head coach Freddie Kitchens on January 14, 2019, and then the whole coaching staff changed in 2020. But the hunt does not stop just here.

Cleveland has also requested to interview Dan Pitcher, who just completed his second season as offensive coordinator with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Dianna Russini at The Athletic.

Who would you like to see as the next HC of the Browns?
