NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler Links Kevin Stefanski to New York Giants Head Coaching Opening

Kevin Stefanski may be in hot water in Cleveland, but his future isn't looking bleak at all. According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, Stefanski may have a way to stay in the NFL.

Instead of staying as the head coach for the Browns, Fowler thinks Stefanski could end up as the head coach for the Giants. Fellow analyst Dan Graziano suggested a potential trade situation for the coach, to which Fowler had a simple answer.

"Stefanski might be the strongest retread candidate in the eyes of many. The Giants would be an ideal fit. And trades of any kind are never off the table in Cleveland, but it'd be tricky trying to trade a coach who's 7-26 over the past two years."

The main obstacle is contractual. Stefanski has one year left on his deal with Cleveland. Any move would require a trade, an uncommon but legal option, especially as teams explore more aggressive solutions to coaching instability.

General manager Joe Schoen now leads the Giants’ coaching search. With the franchise seeking offensive structure and quarterback development, Stefanski’s system-driven background aligns with New York’s current priorities.

Despite criticism in Cleveland, Stefanski’s résumé remains notable. He won NFL Coach of the Year in 2020 and 2023. Those seasons highlighted his ability to manage rosters, structure offenses, and maintain organizational discipline.

And the Cleveland Browns' coaching staff clearly believes in Kevin

According to offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, "I think the outside enjoys or pays a lot more attention to it than we do in the building. We take off of Kevin’s leadership, which is excellent. We work long hours. We don’t have a whole lot of time to do a lot else except try to get our guys ready to play and get our guys ready to face the opponent of the week..."

Despite the issues the Browns faced this year, Kevin Stefanski managed to develop talent with the likes of Shedeur Sanders, Harold Fanin Jr., and Quinshon Judkins.

"We have a great group here, great staff, guys that enjoy being around each other, so kind of just lean into each other, and take after Kevin’s leadership and put one foot in front of the other."
