Shedeur Sanders received the nod as starting QB for the remaining games, but one prediction already puts his future at the Browns in jeopardy.

NFL Insider Todd McShay expressed doubts about Sanders' future with the Cleveland Browns.

"I don’t think it’s in Cleveland. I say that because I’m not convinced that the coaching staff wanted to draft him. And you can kind of see that they blocked with everything they had, him playing, or even being, feeling like he was a player that they were developing. I never got that sense that they were putting the effort in this season, even with Shedeur as a backup, to get him prepared for the moment that arose with the injury to Dillon Gabriel."

Despite being touted as a good pick, the Browns finally took him as the fifth round 144th pick from the 2025 Draft. And it just got more difficult for Sanders from there.

McShay referred to the months of wait Shedeur Sanders was put through. From QB4 to taking to the field for the first time took weeks. And even when he played as a replacement for Dillon Gabriel in the Ravens game, he looked unprepared.

In the following starts, with more training, he improved. His 364 yards and three touchdowns against the Titans showed why many fans believe he can grow into a reliable starter.

With signs of a potential rift between the QB and Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, McShay had a simple conclusion.

"Is it the same head coach, Kevin Stefanski, next year? If it is, I think that he’s playing now to get the attention of the other 31 organizations to try to get an opportunity. It would most likely have to be in a trade, or else he’s going to have to ride out the remaining three years in his rookie deal."

Since Deshaun Watson is most likely going to return for the 2026 season, Shedeur may not have the QB1 spot.

Shedeur Sanders could be the key to a stable future

When it comes to the QB role, the Cleveland Browns have seemed to be in turmoil ever since Baker Mayfield went away. Now, they have a chance to bring some sense of stability with Shedeur Sanders. But it's not just about a rookie QB.

Shedeur Sanders is surrounded by rookies who are proving themselves. Quinshon Judkins, Harold Fannin Jr. and Isaiah Bond are three solid names for the Browns.
