NFL Insider Drops Major Update Browns Update Over HC Decision

After firing their former head coach, Kevin Stefanski, for the results he’s yielded in the past two seasons, the Browns have stated what they expect their new coach to offer.

Although general manager Andrew Berry had stated that they would “be pretty open-minded” in a post on X, NFL insider Ian Rapaport shared that the Browns are looking at Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken to take over the HC role.

He shared that the Browns have sent Monken an interview request. If accepted, this will not be Monken’s first outing with the Browns, as the veteran coach held the Browns’ offensive coordinator position in 2019 with Freddie Kitchens as the head coach.

The 59-year-old OC has 37 years of experience in coaching across college football and the pro league. The Browns are desperate to elevate their offense after Stefanski failed despite a similar background to Monken.

With the Browns, Monken did not make any play calls, as they were reserved for Kitchens. The 2019 season was a tumultuous one, with Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham Jr. falling short on the expectations set for them. Monken eventually parted ways with the franchise and went on to successfully coach the University of Georgia.

In 2021, he orchestrated their National Championship win over Alabama and gained a stunning 65- 7 victory against Texas Christian University.

He returned to the NFL in 2023 as the Ravens’ offensive coordinator and raised the unit ranking to 6th, 1st, and 16th, respectively. His impact was also seen in their points per game, which ranked 4th, 3rd, and 11th in the league.

Rapaport mentioned that he had received offers in the past, and Monken sat down for an interview with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Carolina Panthers. In 2024, he received offers from the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chicago Bears.

How are the Browns faring now

The Browns’ offense has been abysmal. After losing in Week 15 to the Bills, Pro Bowler Terrell Owens trashed the entire offensive line, especially tackle Cam Robinson, and even accused him of rigging the game.

With their starting quarterback position still a puzzle, the Browns need to hire a reliable figure who has proved himself before. After rejecting previous offers, will Monken take this one? What do you think?
