NFL Fans Turn On Drake Maye Over MVP Loss After Super Bowl Nightmare
The New England Patriots’ star QB Drake Maye was always in contention to win the league MVP.
In fact, there was outrage among fans when Matthew Stafford beat him by just one vote. While the Rams’ veteran QB got 24 first-place votes and 366 points, Maye got 23 first-place votes and 361 points.
Fans argued that the Chargers’ QB Justin Herbert getting a vote was unjustified, and Maye should’ve got it instead. However, after his performance at the Super Bowl against Seattle, the same fans now have different opinions.
Following the Patriots’ humbling 29-13 defeat against the Seahawks, CBS Sports analyst Todd Fuhrmann shares a post, taking a dig at Maye’s MVP claims.
“Suddenly Justin Herbert getting a single MVP vote, knowing Drake Maye got 20+, doesn’t seem nearly as egregious.”
Maye’s performance in his first-ever Super Bowl wasn’t the deciding factor at all in choosing the league MVP, considering Stafford won the award days ago. However, the fans still expected a lot from him, as he was seen as Tom Brady’s successor by many.
Going up against one of the best defensive units in the league, Maye scored two touchdowns and threw for 295 yards. However, the 23-year-old also had 2 interceptions and 6 sacks.
After dropping his worst performance of the season, getting just a 16.3 QB rating, the fans expressed their frustrations with him.
Fans stand against Drake Maye's MVP claim
As said earlier, a lot of fans see glimpses of Tom Brady in Drake Maye. However, one fan changed his opinion after his Super Bowl performance.
"Never want to hear the Maye & Brady comparison until Maye can read a hot route!" he said.
Another fan praised Justin Herbert and felt he should've had more votes than Maye.
"Justin Herbert was winning games getting pressured on more than 50% of his drop backs I don't want to hear s*** about him not being worthy of MVP consideration."
One fan never felt the 'Drake Maye hype' as he said, "Most overrated MVP leader in NFL history. He won’t be a factor next year with a tougher schedule."
However, there were some who sided with Maye, saying, "It’s a regular-season award."
What do the Patriots fans really think about Maye and his performance at the Super Bowl? Let us know in the comments!
