NFL Fans React After Ex-Patriots Star Drops Salty Statement After Being Benched for Drake Maye

It is a line written in stone that Drake Maye is one of the key factors in the return of the New England Patriots. And when pushing one talent, you often have to put one down.

Joe Milton was the one who suffered that fate with the Patriots, and he is not happy with what happened. In an interview, he said: "I think it would have been different if Jacoby was the starter, Drake was the backup, I was the emergency quarterback. When you moved Drake up to start, what should Jacoby now do? He got his job too, right?"

Jacoby Brissett was the QB1 for the Patriots in the 2024 season. But after 5 weeks, the team promoted Drake Maye to the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Joe Milton, who was the QB3, remained at that position while Brissett came down to QB2.

"You just keep him at the 2 because he's a vet. But he's not taking reps. It's just me and Drake, the only one practicing. But he's still at the 2. I mean, I just felt disrespected," Milton said. The 25-year-old played only one game for the Patriots, which was against the Bills in week 18.

He recorded 22 completed passes out of 29 attempts for 241 yards and a touchdown in that game. In the 2025 season, the Patriots traded him to the Dallas Cowboys. And while he felt that he wasn't valued enough in the team, the fans do not agree with the sentiment.

Fans Criticise Joe Milton for Complaining about Getting Replaced by Drake Maye

Many fans have rained down heavily on the Cowboys' quarterback. "Sounds good bro. You're nearing f****** 26 and havent done squat in the NFL All while Maye plays in the BOWL Another loser low IQer," one fan said. In his 2 seasons, Milton has played 2 games and has 424 yards and 2 TDs.

One fan stressed, "bro you were a late round rookie quarterback. just be happy to be there". Another followed the same lines with, "I’m all for players believing in themselves but to be salty cuz they made you QB3 behind their 1st round QB they paid millions to and that obviously had tons of talent is indefensible".

The Patriots picked up Drake Maye in the 1st round, 3rd overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, and signed a 4-year rookie contract worth $36.64 million. On the flip side, Milton was picked in the 6th round, 193rd overall, and given a 4-year rookie contract worth $4.20 million. The difference is clear.

A fan also argued, "Brissett is one of the best back up QBs in the league and Milton was a rookie lmao. Milton was also a very average college QB. He should probably stop talking because he’s just embarrassing himself at this point". One more fan stressed, "YOU WERE A ROOKIE!!!!!!"

What they want to say is that Brissett came with 10 years of experience in the NFL, while Milton had not thrown a pass in the league.
