NFL Fans React After 49ers Legend Joe Montana Throws Dallas Helmet in Trash

During a fan meetup, San Francisco 49ers icon Joe Montana just proved that while NFL players eventually retire, the rivalries they were part of never come to an end for them.

Montana sparked the old fire once again when he found a signed Cowboys helmet during the meet. The NFL legend picked it up and looked around, and found a place to put it in.

He threw the signed helmet into a bin nearby. "They belong right here," he joked as everyone in the room laughed. Then again, it's not surprising coming from Joe Montana.

Montana has been one of those players to have experienced the peak of the 49ers vs. Cowboys rivalry and was a big part of it. In fact, "The Catch" might still be giving nightmares to the Dallas Cowboys fans.

In the 1981 NFC Championship at Candlestick Park, Joe Montana threw a last-minute touchdown pass to Dwight Clark, called 'The Catch'. It gave the 49ers a 28-27 win and signaled the start of San Francisco’s dynasty.

Montana throwing the Cowboys' helmet into the trash sent fans into a wave of rivalry nostalgia. "That’s right, trash," a fan said. And he is not the only one.

Fans React as Joe Montana Reignites the 49ers vs. Cowboys Rivalry

Many 49ers fans have enjoyed this moment. "Still owns Dallas 40 years later. Legendary hater energy," one said referring to the legendary catch. Other than that, Montana was also prolific with a passer rating of 108.4 with 1,114 yards, 9 touchdowns in 5 games versus the Cowboys in his career.

One fan even said, "He’s better than Brady, let’s debate." While one also commented, "Absolute, stone cold, G****** LEGEND. Joe is/was/and will forever be the GOAT. Cheater Brady can get f*****."

He chose to be neutral while Montana is still supporting the 49ers, 30 years after retirement. Another comment read, "The beef never ends between these two teams."

While Joe Montana is no longer actively adding to that rivalry, it's been going on since the 1970s, and it might never stop, and that's the best part about it.
