NFL Fans Left Fuming After Jets Hold Onto Breece Hall with Franchise Tag
The Jets placed a franchise tag on Hall worth a whopping $14.293 million, making him one of the highest-paid running backs in the league.
In another scenario, such a paycheck would be a reason to celebrate. But Hall’s fans expressed their rage on X at a talented player being chained to a disappointing team.
“Just in: The #Jets are placing the franchise tag on RB Breece Hall, per @Schultz_Report. That’s a 1-year, $14.293M fully-guaranteed price tag for Hall, instantly making him a top-4 paid RB in the NFL. He’s now off the FA market, and both sides will work toward getting a long-term deal done,” NFL insider Ari Meirov reported on the one-year deal on Tuesday.
Hall took to X to say, "Always been the type to bet on myself. Been working…see yall soon, Love."
This update follows recent trade interest in Hall. The likes of the Kansas City Chiefs need a running back, with Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco set to be free agents. While the tag keeps the door open for other franchises, it also does the same for the Jets.
This news did not sit well with fans, while some seemed to make peace with Hall being paid well, others were disappointed.
Breece Hall’s Wasted Talents Against the Ever-Disappointing Jets
One upset fan wrote, “At least he’s getting a decent payday to waste another year of his career.” But another was pleased the 24-year-old's talents were recognized with a large payday.
“He deserves every penny! Breece Hall is half of the Jets' offensive power. Making him a top-4 paid RB is a well-earned recognition of his elite talent,” the fan wrote.
For clarity, in the 2025 season, Hall scored four touchdowns for 1,065 yards from 243 carries. Since being drafted by the Jets in 2022 in the second round, Hall has carried the ball 755 times for 3,385 yards and scored 18 touchdowns.
His performance, however, is a huge contrast to the Jets, who have consistently let down fans. In 2025, they stood 4th in the AFC West with a 3-14 record. In the past five seasons, the franchise has either ranked 3rd or 4th in its respective conference and always at the bottom of the overall ranking.
The Jets' consistent failure to improve is why one fan detailed how Hall is stuck with the franchise.
“$14.3M guaranteed is solid but this feels like a delay more than a solution. If they don't get a long term deal done before July this is just going to drag out into camp drama. Breece deserves to be somewhere he's actually competing for something, not stuck in a rebuild with no clear timeline. At least he's getting paid in the meantime. Jets gonna Jets,” a comment read.
The franchise tag is clearly a move to avoid losing Hall to another franchise through free agency. But the Jets are wasting away a talented player who remains unsupported, as the management has made no moves to bring in other players to improve the team.
“Holding a top back is hostage is wild for the jets especially since they easily can get a 3rd for him,” one fan said, which was followed by another similar reaction.
The Jets are currently third in the 2026 Draft order. If they can trade Hall, they can add a potential first-round pick for their rebuild this season.
“Jets are going to be bad again this year but at least Breece will be enjoyable to watch.”
