NFL Fans Left Confused After Packers Splurge Record $33 Million on Sean Rhyan Extension

The Green Packers are in deep waters with their fans, who are still trying to make sense of their team’s latest move.

As the NFL free agency began, the Packers re-signed Sean Rhyan for a whopping $33 millions.

As per a Sunday X post by NFL expert Tom Pelissero, the Packers and Rhyan have agreed on a three-year contract extension with a max value of $39 million.

“The Packers and Sean Rhyan have agreed to a three-year, $33 million extension with a max value of $39 million, sources tell me and @RapSheet. Rhyan becomes one of the NFL’s highest-paid centers after nine career starts at the position. Deal negotiated by @AgentMirza, Cameron Foster, and @chriscabott of @EquitySports,” the X post read.

With this, the 25-year-old became the league’s highest-paid center, much to the dismay of the Packers’ fans. And one fan’s reaction summarized the confusion everyone felt as they pointed to his lackluster career stats.

“9 career starts and one of the highest-paid centers in the league. somebody out there is doing the math right now, and it hurts them personally,” the comment said.

Rhyan’s Limited Experience Is the Biggest Eye Sore for His Critics

In the 2025 season, he started in nine games while Elgton Jenkins was injured. Rhyan had played at the center just for a little while, and hence many feel he does not deserve his pay cheque. Moreso, as other contracts must be under restructuring.

“Good player. Feels like an overpay.  Probably gotta cut Banks and Jenkins now,” one fan reacted, which was followed up with a similar comment.

“With limited cap space, what are they thinking? Dude better perform to his salary. Should be elite. Pro Bowl worthy. Gudenough does another big overpay on the O-line. Banks now Rhyan.”

According to Over the Cap, the Packers are estimated to have around $2.7 million to $10.8 million in their cap space. Their management is actively restructuring contracts, as seen with guard Aaron Banks, whose cap hit is at $24.8 million.

While some fans were taken aback by the stats and financial constraints, others reacted hilariously to the situation.

Someone simply commented, “I don’t love this deal,” while another stated pointed to the absurdity of the extension by writing, “This feels like it should be an April fools joke.”
