NFL Fans in Shock as 49ers Beat Browns to Mike Evans Signing

The San Francisco 49ers have hijacked the Cleveland Browns' target. After reports of the Browns looking at Mike Evans as a receiving option emerged, it didn't take long for a move to take place.

Mike Evans has signed a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers that is worth up to $60.4 million, according to the sources. Even though the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were ready to make him a contract extension.

Evans remains one of the greatest WRs to have played the game. Before the 2026 season, he was a free agent, a perfect opportunity for the Browns.

The Browns had one of the worst WR performances in the league in the 2025-26 season. Their primary WR, Jerry Jeudy, has 10 drops, the second most in the league. But that's not all. Harold Fannin Jr., in his rookie year, outperformed the veteran. Despite this, none of the receivers managed to reach the 1000-yard mark, and the offense struggled.

But reports also said Evans wanted to go to a team that can win the Super Bowl and has a QB he can trust. The Browns lack in both.

Moreover, as his agent Deryk Gilmore said, it "was never about money. ...his decision simply came down to Mike wanting a new challenge and a fresh opportunity while he still feels he has a great deal left to give the game." And he found that in the 49ers.

NFL Fans Stunned as 49ers Sign Mike Evans

Fans have made comments like, "That offense just got even scarier." In the 2025 season, Evans crossed 1,000 receiving yards for the 11th season and joined Hall of Famer Jerry Rice as the only players in NFL history to accomplish that feat.

He is the only player in league history to begin a career with 11 straight 1,000-yard seasons. His track record of production speaks for itself.

A fan said, "Sometimes I really hate free agency. Today is one of those days." Another shared that sentiment, commenting, "12 seasons in Tampa… end of an era." Evans spent 12 NFL seasons with the Bucs, and the fans loved him. They are bound to feel gutted with his departure.

One user said, "Listen, Mike is a phenomenal player. But 3 years at his age and after missing half the season?? I dont know about that." The concerns may be valid, as Evans missed significant time last season due to a hamstring injury, a concussion, and a broken collarbone.

Another fan said, "This lowkey NASTY but Evans is old so not sure how to really feel lol". Mike Evans is 34 years old. How good do you think he will be for the 49ers?
