NFL Experts in Debate as Cleveland Browns' 2026 Draft Plans Under Scrutiny

On the Terry's Talkin' podcast, Cleveland.com columnist Terry Pluto and host David Campbell debated the most pressing question the Browns will have to answer soon.

With all hopes of making the playoffs already gone, Kevin Stefanski and Co. are scrambling to at least avoid repeating last season's 3-14 record. Although another dismal season has earned them the 3rd Draft pick in 2026, they need to make a choice.

Should the Browns invest in another young QB or build a foundation?

Campbell pointed out that if the Browns get Fernando Mendoza or Dante Moore, they would have "three young quarterbacks." However, he thinks it could be a risky move.

"If the quarterback pick doesn’t work out or if all three guys don’t work out, what are you left with from this draft?" argued Campbell.

Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel didn't exactly prove themselves as blockbuster acquisitions in 2025. So Pluto offered an alternative.

Trading down from their premium position to accumulate more assets. He said the Browns could go what they did last year, trade thier 2nd pick and then pick up a first and second.

“You get a first the following year and then… basically you probably would have say three or four picks in the first 40, something like that with your own second, the second from the other team," he added.

Yet, Pluto also agreed that Shedeur Sanders still has ways to go before becoming a reliable franchise QB. "I mean, you look, his overall stats are not very good. And then you turn around, you look at who he’s playing with, and that’s not very good," he said.

Sanders has a passer rating of 67.5 with 1,103 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in 6 games this season. Then again, the offensive line has also failed to protect him. The Browns OL has allowed opponents sack him 15 times, which is more than 2 per game. So giving Sanders the proper support may be another way out.

The perfect pick for the Cleveland Browns if they build around Shedeur Sanders

The Browns can't afford to waste thier second pick on a QB if they try to build the team around Shedeur Sanders. They already have Deshaun Watson and Dillion Gabriel as the backups. So who could be the top choice?

Carnell Tate of the Ohio State. Jerry Jeudy is the current WR of the team, and well, he has not been great with the most catch drops of the season. Tate might be able to fix that problem for the Browns.

He finished his 2025 season with 118 receptions for 1,835 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 15.6 yards per catch. Tate was also a key contributor on Ohio State’s 2024 national championship team and 2025 Biletnikoff Award semifinalist.

So what's your take on this situation?
