NFL Expert Left Confused with Andrew Berry’s Motivation Over Browns HC Search

It’s been over two weeks since the Cleveland Browns fired head coach Kevin Stefanski. Yet Andrew Berry still hasn't found a suitable candidate to lead the team.

General manager Andrew Berry is leading the search. NFL experts Tony Rizzo and Aaron Goldhammer have now given their brutal opinions on Berry’s work so far.

“Right now, I’m getting the vibe… We all looked at each other and couldn’t believe that Jimmy put Andrew in charge of the search based on experience and credibility and all of that. Right now, to me it looks like Andrew is in over his head; he doesn’t know what he’s doing.”

After the regular season ended, there were 10 teams without a head coach. Head coaches like Mike McDaniel, John Harbaugh, and Sean McDermott were on the carousel. Yet Berry hasn’t found a suitable person to lead this team to Super Bowl glory.

Harbaugh was snapped up by the New York Giants, despite being a candidate by the Browns. Mike McDaniel looks like he's happy taking a demotion to being an offensive coordinator for Jim Harbaugh's LA Chargers.

However, the organization's most significant error is failing to complete the Rooney Rule. Without the completion of that rule, in which a franchise must interview at least two minority candidates for the head coaching job, Cleveland won’t be able to sign a head coach, even if they have a favorite.

At the same time, when Berry joined as GM back in 2020, it was the same time Kevin Stefanski came into the team. In his first season, he took the team to the playoffs, but his overall tenure became disappointing.

Cleveland Browns Head Coach Search So Far

Cleveland's defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz, is a strong internal candidate. The Browns' defense ranked fourth in fewest yards allowed per game with 283.6.

The Browns have scheduled a second interview with him. The franchise plans to conduct second interviews with four other candidates.

It includes Todd Monken (Ravens OC), Grant Udinski (Jaguars OC), Jesse Minter (Chargers DC), and Nate Scheelhaase (Rams pass game coordinator).
