NFL Expert Claims Todd Monken Should Bring in Ex-QB to Replace Shedeur Sanders
Following a disappointing rookie season by Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, the QB dilemma remains. Who would be the Quarterback for the Cleveland Browns?
A lot of names have been coming up, especially after Deshaun Watson has started training again. However, Bradley Locker of PFF believes that Todd Monken should consider bringing in a quarterback he has worked with and who has also been with the Browns: Tyler Huntley.
"The Browns, like other organizations on this list, are in a strange situation. New head coach Todd Monken inherits an offense that placed last in virtually every advanced metric, but one that’s also limited under center. It would make sense for Huntley to join that group."
The expert talked about how Huntley is familiar with both Browns and Todd Monken. "Inserting Huntley into the starting mix would give Cleveland another decent option in what figures to be another rebuilding season, considering the team’s extensive offensive needs," he added.
Huntley signed with the Browns in March 2024 and again in 2025. But they released him before the regular season in both stints. In the 2025 Preseason, he played 3 games for Cleveland, completing 17/22 passes for 129 yards and 1 touchdown.
Now, since they released him, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
There, he worked with Todd Monken, the then team's offensive coordinator. Huntley played 5 games in the 2025 regular season, throwing for 426 yards and 2 touchdowns and earning a passer rating of 103.1. He also recorded 151 rushing yards but no rushing touchdowns.
The good news for the Browns is that Huntley had only signed a one-year deal with the Ravens. So he is a free agent walking into the 2026 season. They must put their money on him if they really don't want to commit to the likes of Shedeur Sanders and other QBs in the camp.
But Todd Monken Has His Eyes on One Other QB to Replace Shedeur Sanders
And that is none other than the oldest and most experienced quarterback in the Browns QB room: Deshaun Watson. Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that Monken is eager to work with Watson.
"Browns coach Todd Monken acknowledged on the day he was hired that he’s 'intrigued' by three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson, and that he’s just as excited to work with him as he is Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and anyone else the Browns acquire."
Watson is entering the last year of his contract with the Browns. He has not played a game since the Achilles tear in the 2024 season. Plus, the 3x Pro Bowler has not played like one for the Browns, with only 3,365 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 19 games.
Would you take him before Sanders? Or would you bring in Tyler Huntey? Or are you going one among Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel?
