NFL Divisional Playoffs: Seahawks Steamroll Through 49ers in Dominant One-Sided Affair
The Seattle Seahawks are heading to the NFC Championship. They dismantled the San Francisco 49ers in a 41-6 divisional round blowout.
Rasheed Shaheed set the stage on fire with a 95-yard return touchdown.
In fact, the Seahawks completely dominated the first half, scoring a field goal and another touchdown. They ended the first quarter with a huge 17-0 lead.
Eddy Pinero displayed some fighting spirit in the second quarter. He scored a couple of field goals, cutting Seattle’s lead to 11 points. However, the Seahawks fired again, thanks to Kenneth Walker’s 7-yard touchdown run.
The 49ers saw no chance to come back, as after scoring another field goal, the Seahawks forced an interception from Brock Purdy. At 2:23 in the third quarter, they hurt San Francisco even more, as Kenneth Walker scored his second rushing touchdown. Seattle was in complete control going into the last quarter, leading with an outrageous 34-6 score.
The last quarter was no different, with Kenneth Walker scoring another touchdown. He produced his season-best numbers, rushing for 116 yards and 3 scores. Seattle gave the 49ers their second-biggest playoff loss in the franchise's history.
Seattle’s Path To Super Bowl Won’t Be Easy
The Seahawks were the dark horses in the NFL this season. And if anyone had any doubts, this game settled it.
However, an even tougher opponent will be waiting for them on the other side. They will face the winner of the Divisional playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Chicago Bears.
Seattle has faced the Rams twice this season. While they suffered a close 21-19 loss in Week 11, they got their revenge after a few weeks, earning a valuable 38-37 victory.
The Bears, however, could be a surprise factor. Seattle hasn’t faced the Chicago side this season. Caleb Williams has been in excellent form this season, scoring 27 touchdowns for 3942 passing yards. It will be interesting to see how he fares against the Seahawks’ defense, which has allowed only 17.2 points per game.
Brock Purdy Loses His First Game in Seattle
Since his NFL debut in the 2022 season, Brock Purdy has been unbeaten against the Seahawks in Seattle. In the 2022 season, the 26-year-old won his first game in Seattle, scoring 2 touchdowns for 217 yards.
He then went on to win three more games in Seattle for three consecutive years. Purdy scored 6 touchdowns for a combined 741 passing yards.
This season, he has lost two games, including the Divisional playoffs. His numbers look similar, as the Seahawks' defense effectively neutralized him.
