NFL Divisional Playoffs: Rams Outlast Bears in Overtime Drama

The game between the Rams and the Bears did not disappoint the hype that had been set. The game had to go into overtime to determine the winner of a see-saw battle.

After defeating the Bears in a 20 - 17 overtime match, the Rams are moving ahead in the NFC championship to face the Seahawks next.

While both teams gave each other a tough competition in a close game, the Rams emerged victorious when they intercepted Caleb Williams for the third time. Following this, Harrison Mevis kicked the game-winning 42-yard field goal.

During regulation, the Rams and the Bears were caught in a stand-off. At halftime, they were tied at 10-10. The Rams’ running back Kyren Williams scored the first touchdown of the game, a four-yard one, in the first quarter during 2nd and goal with 6:20 on the clock.

The Bears scored seven points in the second quarter when Caleb Williams threw a three-yard touchdown to DJ Moore in 4th and goal. Williams later followed it up with a 23-yard gain, with Colston Loveland and Kyle Monangi adding a 15-yard run.

Before halftime, the Bears took a 10-point lead when Cairo Santos made a 48-yard field goal with 01:10 left in the first half. Mathew Stafford tied with the Bears by adding a 66-yard drive, and Harrison Mevis scored a 32-yard field goal.

The third quarter was unhappening as both teams failed to score any points. Until Kyren Williams scored his second touchdown in the game in the fourth quarter during 1st and goal.

The Chargers’ defence, cornerback Cobie Durant, intercepted Caleb Williams for the second time before they got a first down.

With only 18 seconds left in the game and the Chargers leading 17-10, William hurled a massive touchdown to Cole Kmet. With that, the game went into overtime.

Penalty and Catch Controversy

In the initial minutes of the fourth quarter, Matthew Stafford made a pass to Davante Adams, while the Bears claimed they caught the ball.

Referees decided in favor of Adams, who made his first catch in the game with this play, as officials “ruled down by contact.” Terry McAulay, NBC rules analyst, opined it was “clearly a catch.”

The Bear’s star quarterback, Williams, was intercepted thrice on Sunday. During his first one, early on in the game, Williams suffered forcible contact on his head and neck, which fans and McAulay believe was ignored by the officials.
