"The best option" - NFL analyst on why Deshaun Watson should still start for the Browns

The Cleveland Browns and Deshaun Watson's time together are at a crossroad and could end as soon as this Sunday, if Watson has another disastrous performance.

Members of the Cleveland media, like veteran Tony Grossi, who backed Watson as the starter all summer are now pushing for Shedeur Sanders to start,

One person who disagrees is Albert Breer. Breer says that Watson starting is still the right decision, even though most Browns fans disagree with him on this. Breer said:

"I would say they still do believe that Deshaun's the best option for the team. A lot of this year, and I don't know that they're going to say this publicly, but a lot of this year is about talent development for them, right? So, they made the conscious decision a year and a half ago, we got to get younger. You've got a really nice young core there." (via The Rich Eisen Show)

Why Albert Breer is backing Deshaun Watson to start

Despite Browns fans clamoring for Shedeur Sanders, Albert Breer is still backing Deshaun Watson and he explained why. Breer felt that a veteran QB could help the younger players of the offense deliver faster as the Browns get ready for 2027:

"I just think a huge piece of the decision-making now is what quarterback is going to be best for the other 10 guys in the huddle to develop and get better. And if you've got a young quarterback who's developing himself, it can hamstring that a little bit."

Browns fans will strongly disagree and want the team to focus on the current season, instead of throwing in the towel after only one game and looking at the 2027 Draft.
