NFL Analyst Gets Candid Over Shedeur Sanders QB1 Chances Amidst Browns' Uncertainty
The Cleveland Browns used four different quarterbacks in the 2025 season.
Despite this, they still haven't decided whether they will move ahead with Shedeur Sanders as their QB1 in the 2026 season or choose someone else.
Many experts have had their say on it. Interestingly, Fox Sports analyst Chris Broussard, a longtime supporter of Sanders, has said that the former Colorado QB shouldn't just be given the QB1 spot.
"Look, Shedeur has not, as much as I like him...he has not earned the right at this point to feel any way other than, I gotta compete. ...I have to go out there and win this job."
Walking into the 2026 season, the Browns already have Dillon Gabriel in the QB room. Watson has also recovered from his Achilles injury, and he has already started training.
While these two remain an option, Broussard advised the Browns to look for other options as well.
"Whether they bring in Malik Willis, they draft Ty Simpson or whoever, or it's me and Dillon Gabriel and maybe Deshaun Watson. I have got to compete," he said about Sanders' mentality.
Apparently, he also stated that Sanders would be treated differently under the new head coach.
"I don't think Stefanski was high on him. He obviously let him play at the end of the year, but I think Monken will give him a much more fairer shot than Stefanski did."
The former Browns head coach, Kevin Stefanski, did not start the season with Sanders.
His first choice was Dillon Gabriel. And he did not start with Shedeur Sanders until Gabriel fell to injury in week 11. But Todd Monken has shown faith in the 24-year-old since he was the offensive coordinator of the Ravens.
Broussard believes Shedeur Sanders Will Shine Under Todd Monken
In that episode of First Take, Broussard also said that while Sanders failed to show up in the 2025 season, Monken will get the best out of him.
"His numbers are pretty dreadful, but he showed you enough flashes that with a coach that believes in him, with an offense that gives him a shot. I think he definitely deserves a chance to start and earn that job in training camp."
Sanders had a passer rating of 68.1 with 1,400 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 8 games in 2025.
Todd Monken has spoken positively about him at the 2026 NFL Combine, praising his playmaking ability.
Do you think he can make Shedeur Sanders an elite QB? Let us know in the comments!
