NFL Analyst Drops Key Updates Over Shedeur Sanders and Co.'s Future With the Browns
Amidst speculation about Shedeur Sanders' future, Zac Jackson of The Athletic has talked about what the Browns have planned for their QB room and what their move is over the most talked-about free agency prospect, Malik Willis.
"The Browns will talk with quarterback prospects in Indianapolis and talk with other teams, too, about potential trades. We know the Browns will use the next two months to add to their offense in multiple ways. Soon, they’ll have to decide if they want to pursue Malik Willis in free agency, maybe pursue a trade or wait until the draft to complete their quarterback room."
And both Andrew Berry and Todd Monken are present at the Combine to scout the best prospects, especially the offensive ones.
They had the 3rd least offensive yards in the 2025 season, 4,456. The QB room once again failed to make a major impact despite trying both Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. And then there's Jerry Jeudy, who had 10 drops at WR, second most in the season.
So it's only fair for the Browns to strengthen their offense and look for a new QB. Malik Willis is a great option. He signed a 4-year, $5.16 M rookie deal with the Titans in 2022 and was traded to the Packers in 2024, serving as backup for Jordan Love.
The contract will end in the coming months, and he will be a free agent with experience of throwing for 1,322 yards and 6 touchdowns in 22 career games.
"I think there's always the possibility," Andrew Berry said after he was asked about an external option for the QB.
But Malik Willis Replacing Shedeur Sanders Comes with a Problem
NFL Insider, Dov Kleiman, has reported that, "Packers QB Malik Willis could get a deal worth $20M-$30M per year in free agency, per @TomPelissero Willis is going to be in extremely high demand". This could pose a financial problem for the Browns.
When they traded for Deshaun Watson in 2022, he signed a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed deal. They restructured it in March 2025, and now Watson’s base salary for the 2026 season is $46 million, fully guaranteed.
So are the Browns willing to pay Watson $46 Million and keep him as QB2 or QB3 while also playing Willis somewhere between $20M-$30m? And even if they are, keep in mind Willis has been mostly a backup. So, will it be a wise choice?
