New Details Emerge Over Potential Myles Garrett-Jalen Hurts Linkup

The buzz around Myles Garrett’s trade rose too quickly on June 1. Browns’ insider, Mary Kay Cabot, broke news on Monday that three teams, i.e., the Philadelphia Eagles, the LA Rams and the Dallas Cowboys, were showing interest in Garrett.

That deal didn’t go through because the Eagles refused to trade one player to the Browns, i.e., defensive tackle Jalen Carter.

"The Eagles’ interest in Myles Garrett was more than exploratory, per source," Ryan Fowler of NBC Sports Philadelphia reported. "Jalen Carter was a name that arose in talks, I’m told, but zero potential framework revolved around the Eagles’ star up front."

Had this trade materialized, the former Browns’ defensive end would’ve joined quarterback Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia.

Johnny McGonigal of PennLive shared that it makes sense why the Eagles want to keep Carter. The 25-year-old was a second-team All-Pro in 2024 and still has his best football years ahead of him. Plus, the Eagles also exercised his fifth-year option to keep him through the 2027 season.

The Eagles expressed their interest in Garrett multiple times in the past two years. Garrett, too, was excited at the possibility when discussing possible landing spots earlier in the offseason if he made the move.

However, a realistic deal between the Eagles and the Browns would’ve required the former to part with elite young talent, something which the VP and GM of the Eagles, Howie Roseman, wasn’t ready for.

The Eagles were reportedly interested in Garrett during the last offseason before he signed an extension with the Browns. They expressed interest again ahead of the NFL trade deadline in November.

Eventually, the LA Rams ended up acquiring Garrett, and this move brought in both long-term and short-term complications for the Eagles.

With this deal, the Eagles will now have to face the Rams with Garrett leading the defense. But as soon as the trade materialized on Monday, Garrett addressed his new fanbase.

Garrett Had His Mind Set on Winning the Super Bowl With the LA Rams

It wasn’t until a week ago that Garrett was informed of a trade possibility to the Rams. Soon after the blockbuster trade was pulled off, Garrett wasted no time in addressing his new fanbase in LA.

“I’m very excited to be here,” Garrett said on Tuesday. “It’s an honor and a blessing to be in this building. I have a lot of respect for all the guys here, from the coaching staff, management and many of the players. I’m looking forward to help bring a championship here to L.A."

Garrett hopes to get the opportunity with the Rams to play on the sport’s biggest stage after spending nine years in Cleveland. He added that since the very beginning, it’s always been about winning for him.

Adam Grosbard of the Los Angeles Daily News concluded that the Rams made this trade in hopes of winning the Super Bowl this season in their home turf at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
