Netflix Rock Up in Style as with Christmas-Themed Awards for MVP Ahead of Gam Week 17
The NFL and Netflix are gearing up for their second Christmas Gameday Live with two games.
Started in 2024, the special gameday is continuing traditions with a halftime show headed by Snoop Dogg this year and bestowing the MVPs with a red Santa-themed jacket.
This year, designer Nigel Xavier has redesigned the jackets, with a focus on sustainability. Xavier will be using old Santa jackets to do so. And carrying over from last year, the big Netflix logo will be retained on the jackets.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Xavier explained, "I’m honored to add the Netflix logo! This is not a branded or commercial moment for me, it’s a celebration of my journey. From growing up and playing football, to pivoting to fashion design and being recognized for my work repurposing clothes. I’m now being trusted to design these jackets for Netflix and the NFL which will be shown to millions around the world, it feels like a full-circle moment."
Xavier, the winner of ‘Next in Fashion,’ a Netflix show, shared his admiration for the players and was excited to receive the opportunity.
There is one change, however, unlike last year’s in-house designs, his coats are more subdued. THR said that “the jackets are getting a softer, less swishy redesign.”
How will Christmas Day look this year?
Like last year, all four teams playing on Christmas Day will wear holiday-themed jerseys.
The gameday is divided into segments. After the pregame coverage, which at 11 a.m. Eastern Time, Kelly Clarkson will perform her song “Underneath the Tree” for the opening show.
It will be followed by the NFC East rivalry game between the Cowboys and the Commanders. Both teams are eliminated from the playoff race.
The Lions will face the Vikings in their last effort to make it to the postseason. This NFC North match-up is offering “Snoop’s Holiday Halftime Party,” with many special guests set to appear in it.
The Netflix NFL Christmas Gameday was first launched in 2024 and headlined by Beyoncé.
