National Journalist Makes Bold Tom Brady Claim Following Drake Maye’s Super Bowl Charge
Drake Maye has made it to the Super Bowl in just his second season. Reminds you of someone? Tom Brady perhaps?
Drake Maye is walking the same road that Brady once walked, and Skip Bayless feels like the NFL legend won't like it. He uploaded a video talking about the AFC championship game on X and captioned:
"I don't think Tom Brady loves this. I don't think Brady's going to love it for his legacy that some second-year starter, as he was, flipped the switch right back and got the Patriots right back to the Super Bowl. I think it'll in Tom's eyes diminish his legacy a little bit."
In 2001, the 7x Super Bowl winner took over the New England Patriots as QB1 after Drew Bledsoe suffered an injury. He then led the team to a victory in Super Bowl XXXVI. He was also named Super Bowl MVP for his performance in that game.
Now, a Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP are yet to come forward for Drake Maye, but in 2026, as the New England Patriots QB1, he will be leading the team to Super Bowl LX. Similar to Brady, Maye was also the backup QB for the Patriots in his first NFL season, and now he is breaking his records.
Tom Brady played 41 playoff games for the Patriots and recorded only 136 rushing yards. Meanwhile, Maye has played 3 playoff games for the Patriots, and he has already passed Brady with 141 rushing yards. What’s astonishing is that Maye’s average sits at 435.2 yards per season.
It is higher than what the GOAT ever recorded in any of his 23 seasons. With Maye following Brady's legacy, Skip Bayless feels that Brady might not be a fan of it.
But on the contrary, the NFL legend has only had good words and comments about the 23-year-old.
Tom Brady has only appreciation for Drake Maye
Back in December 2025, Brady emphasized that Maye is “a sponge for information” and said that trait matters more than raw film evaluation.
Then in January, he praised his performance and added, “You can see it on tape. He’s poised, he’s prepared, and he’s making the right decisions. That’s what wins in January.”
Maye has passed for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns this season, both being the second-highest this season. The NFL legend has also praised the leadership qualities of the Pats' QB.
"Drake Maye has that humility, and everything that comes out of his mouth is always about the team, always about praising his defense, praising his offensive line, and that’s how you connect with people. Great leaders are in service to other people," he said.
Now, what more is in store for the young QB, time will tell. For now, let us know what you think about him. Will he become a bigger name than Tom Brady?
