Myles Garrett’s Trade Status Puts Browns Future in Doubt, Per National Insider as DE Misses OTAs
There has been enough chatter in NFL circles that the Cleveland Browns could trade Myles Garrett this offseason. With the DE coming off a record-breaking year in 2025, the Browns could now be in a position where there’s no other option but to trade him.
Per a National insider, the Browns have dropped hints about Garrett’s availability for a trade, especially with him not being present at the OTAs and the way they restructured his contract in March.
“When the Browns made this contract modification in March, there was one explanation. It was to open the door for the trade of Myles,” said insider Zac Jackson on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show. “It didn’t mean it would happen.”
Jackson further added that the Browns moved the $10 million and a guarantee of $29 million over three years from being due in March to one week before the season, which this year is September 7. The Browns could trade Myles Garrett anytime between June 1 and September 7.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer also shared his take on the DE’s trade. He said that things are still TBD, but the trade deadline could be next week. He also said that the timeline of Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns doesn’t align, as the franchise is focusing on laying a strong foundation.
Per Jordan Sigler of Newsweek, the Browns are in the rebuilding phase with young players coming into the team. The team isn’t yet ready to compete in the AFC North and would continue building its roster till next year’s draft.

Garrett, on the other hand, is committed to winning a Super Bowl and had agreed to be with the Browns only if they’re committed to winning.
However, looking at the Browns’ plans for the future, Sigler reported that the 30-year-old Garrett has the opportunity to join a contender while he’s still in the prime of his career.
While Albert Breer says it’s still TBD on whether the Browns will trade Myles Garrett, Zac Jackson felt strongly about the trade happening, considering the responses of Todd Monken and Mike Rutenberg.
Monken and Rutenberg Respond to Garrett’s Absence at the OTAs
The trade rumors grew stronger when Garrett missed the OTAs. Furthermore, head coach Todd Monken said that he and Garrett hadn’t met yet.
Monken then added that it’s not a big deal that Garrett hasn’t made it to the OTAs, as it's voluntary. Not just Garrett, but many other players didn’t participate in the OTAs. Monken said that the camp would be fired up when all those players come and join in the practices.
On Sunday, the Browns’ defensive coordinator, Mike Rutenberg, also provided his take on Garrett missing the OTAs. He said that the OTAs are voluntary, and he understands that people have other things to do. He also added that there have been interactions between him and Garrett.
NFL insiders are now awaiting the mandatory minicamp starting on June 11, which will give clarity on the status of Garrett’s trade and future with the Browns.
