Myles Garrett Trade: Real or Rumor, NFL Analyst Gives Honest Take
With the Browns’ defensive end, Myles Garrett, skipping the OTAs again, the chatter around his future with the franchise is increasing.
In March, the news about the Browns restructuring Garrett’s contract fueled trade rumors. It led to many NFL analysts closely monitoring the dynamics between Garrett and the Browns for any signs of confirmation.
“I think you can make an argument, for the Browns to be the best team they possibly can be, say by 2028, trading Myles Garrett right now in order to get the quarterback is still probably in the best interests of the Browns winning a Super Bowl at some point in the next five years,” said NFL analyst Robert Mays. “I think that’s probably true.”
Robert Mays reiterated the narrative that Garrett’s trade is unlikely but is also the best path for the Browns’ future success. However, he added that familiarity and comfort are the major reasons for the Browns to still stick with Garrett, apart from his record-breaking numbers.

The possibility of a future Myles Garrett trade no longer feels completely off the table. Earlier this year, the Browns pushed back Garrett’s option-bonus exercise date until just before the season. This could allow a post-June 1 trade by allowing the cap hit to be split across 2026 and 2027.
Still, at the annual NFL meeting in March, the Browns’ GM, Andrew Berry, addressed the rumors about Garrett’s trade by talking about how the move wasn't to trade the player away.
"If we wanted to trade Myles, we wouldn’t have needed to make a contract adjustment," he replied, "So, it doesn’t have anything to do with that.”
On a recent episode of the 92.3 The Fan show, Browns’ insider, Mary Kay Cabot, put the odds of the Garrett trade happening at zero. She added that the GM Berry and owner Jimmy Haslam are adamant about not trading Garrett.
However, Garrett’s relationship with new coach Monken is under scrutiny now as NFL insiders still search for signs of a trade happening.
Browns HC Takes a Firm Stance on Myles Garrett
The trade rumors of Myles Garrett have continued throughout the offseason for the Browns. A reason that has contributed more to this is the unusual dynamic between the Browns HC, Todd Monken, and Garrett.
Per J.R. DeGroote of heavy.com, Garrett and Monken have only shared text messages since the new coach was brought in in January. The two are yet to meet face-to-face, and Garrett’s absence at the minicamp and the OTAs have made NFL insiders and teams wonder if they are on good terms.
“We’re making a big deal out of this. We are. It’s voluntary. We have other guys besides Myles who aren’t here,” said Monken, addressing the rumors. “We expect them to be ready and we’ll be fired up when they’re here.”
Myles, the DPOY 2023 and 2025, is the star of the roster, making it tough for him to go unnoticed. Now all eyes await with hope to see him at the upcoming training camp.
