Myles Garrett Revists The Dream That Once Prompted Him To Leave Browns

After adding the second Defensive Player of the Year award to his resume, Myles Garrett has revealed what he is working towards next. He recently appeared on The Edge with Micah Parsons, a podcast hosted by the Green Bay Packers’ namesake linebacker.

When asked what’s next in his career, Garrett reiterated his ambition to play in the Super Bowl. But this time, Garrett said he also wants the Super Bowl MVP title.

“What’s next for me? Super Bowl, Super Bowl MVP,” Garrett replied simply.

Everyone has also always known what the 30-year-old edge rusher’s dreams were and how serious he is about them. During the 2025 pre-season, Garrett wrote an open letter to his franchise, the Cleveland Browns, and fans.

He requested a trade after the franchise ended the previous season with a humiliating 4-12 record.

“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl.”

“The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns,” he wrote after winning his first Defensive Player of the Year award.

Garrett was the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Picked by the Browns, he played for them since.

And Stating That He Has Been Their Saving Grace Is Not an Exaggeration

The Browns have always been an unpredictable and dysfunctional franchise. After making two playoff appearances in 2020 and 2023, the team ended with 4-12 and 5-14 records in the past two consecutive seasons.

But Garrett made NFL history. In 2025, he created the league record for most sacks by a player in a season.

He made 23 sacks and surpassed Michael Strahan, who made 22.5 sacks in 2001. T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers tied with Strahan’s elite record in 2021, until Garrett broke it.

Garrett did it with only five minutes left to spare in the Browns’ last game of the season. The star, certain about his abilities, said it was bound to happen.

“A matter of ‘when not if’,” he called it.

But with that done, Garrett has other goals to fulfil, which can’t happen with the Browns. Now more than ever. You see, Garrett was coached by defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. And he powered his unit and made it the best in the league.

The Browns allowed only 283.6 yards per game and finished the 2025 season ranked #4 on the defensive charts. They were above the Seattle Seahawks, whose defense won them the Super Bowl Championship.

Garrett’s career is at a crossroads. Schwartz quit the franchise; no one knows who will be the QB 1, and there is no guarantee that the offense will improve. These just add fuel to Garrett’s trade rumors.
