Myles Garrett Refuses to Commit with Shedeur Sanders as QB1 for 2026: Earn It

Myles Garrett has a simple message for Shedeur Sanders: the QB position will have to be earned. It won't be handed out.

The 2025 Defensive Player of the Year appeared for a candid conversation with the Green Bay Packers’ Micah Parsons, in San Francisco, ahead of the Super Bowl. When asked for clarity on Shedeur’s position in the Browns, Garrett answered:

“That's who we are looking at as the guy. We are going to give him a shot to prove that he's the guy. We’re not going to go out and give anyone that title until they go out there and earn it. He was the last person to be on the field and he showed some flashes."

During the 2025 season, Sanders inherited the position after Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion in Week 11. Before that, he was at the bottom of the QB depth chart, kept as a backup.

And to an extent, Shedeur Sanders managed to make some impact after a terrible first game against the Ravens. In 7 starts, he scored 7 touchdowns and threw for 1,400 yards. His standout game came against the Tennessee Titans, where he had four scrimmage touchdowns and 364 passing yards.

However, there was one big concern. Sanders threw 10 interceptions and was sacked 23 times. In comparison, fellow Browns rookie QB Dillon Gabriel's interception count remained at 2 with 19 sacks.

The Browns’ newly appointed head coach, Todd Monken, shared similar thoughts in his first press conference on February 3rd.

"Well, I think like any position on the team, that's still to be determined," Monken said.

Despite all the uncertainties surrounding him, Sanders feels confident about his overall progress.

Shedeur Sanders Speaks on his Rookie Season

During an interview on Sirius XM Radio, he expressed his opinion on his rookie season ahead of the Pro Bowl.

"I think overall, it helped me get to myself quicker," Shedeur said. "I think I am almost there. Am almost back myself fully, emotionally, mentally, and physically. So, I am just excited to be around the game."

Recently, Sanders was also a part of the AFC Pro Bowl roster. While he scored 2 touchdowns and threw for more than 200 yards, the 24-year-old also threw two costly interceptions.
