Myles Garrett Lands in Pro Football Hall of Fame Amidst Trade Speculations
NFL’s undisputed star defensive end, Myles Garrett, has earned another honor after a stunning run in the 2025 season. The Cleveland Browns player’s jersey, the one he wore while setting a new record, has been included in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“Myles Garrett was a threat the entire 2025 season. He led the league with 33 tackles for loss, which is the second-most by a player in a season since 2000. He also made history when he broke the NFL’s single-season sack record with 23,” the institution posted on X on May 29.
Garrett’s season-long chase to surpass the NFL record for most sacks by a player in a season came to a thrilling end. He recorded his 23rd sack in the last five minutes of the Browns’ Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The moment the Browns hoisted Garrett up in the air to celebrate this milestone is frozen in time. Now more than ever, his entire gear is put on display at Canton. Garrett surpassed the record first set by the New York Giants’ Michael Strahan in 2001 with 22.5 sacks.
This feat was remarkable for another reason. Garrett had asked for a trade in the 2025 preseason, before signing a $140 million contract extension. However, the rumors surrounding his trade have only fueled speculation in recent months.
The Browns restructured his contract in March this offseason. Under the modified language, Garrett’s option bonus for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 league years will be called in to exercise seven days before the regular season.
The new financial arrangement has not only created more cap space for the Browns but also made trading Garrett easier. With each passing day, reports estimate which team could land the defensive weapon.
What Does The Conversation Around Myles Garrett Trade Sound Like
From June 1, the Cleveland Browns have entered the window in which trading Myles Garrett is financially convenient. The restructured contract in addition to Garrett’s absence in the OTAs so far, fueled rumors of an imminent trade.
According to Sporting News and other reports, the franchise that seems to be most interested is the Philadelphia Eagles.
“The Athletic's Dianna Russini confirmed months ago that Philadelphia has "real" interest in a Garrett trade. An anonymous NFL general manager told her, “Howie's not afraid to try stuff, and it fits where they are as a team,” the June 1 report said.
Moreover, a plausible trade proposal from Dawgs By Nature asked fans whether they would accept trading Garrett.
“Would it be worth it to trade Garrett for three first-round picks, plus a little more, in the near future if it would guarantee that the Browns get their quarterback of the future?” Dawgs By Nature asked on May 29.
As for the question on whether the Browns do proceed with this trade, Browns expert Zac Jackson answered it in his article for The Athletic.
“If they can find a team that’s willing to give two first-round picks plus something else of substance, absolutely,” he wrote on June 1.
Will the Browns take this step? General manager Andrew Berry had called Garrett a “career Brown” whether they let him go after they picked him first overall in 2017 is to be seen.
