Myles Garrett Keeps Rivalry Aside as Browns Star Makes Humble Gesture for T.J. Watts

Myles Garrett reached out to T.J. Watt after the Steelers linebacker suffered from a partial collapsed lung.

With fans worrying, his elder brother J.J. Watt dropped an update on his X handle last night, confirming his brother's successful surgery. "Recovery timeline is still TBD, but all went well, and he is being released from the hospital today," J.J. Watt said.

“I reached out to him, but I don’t have his number or anything,” Garrett said during the weekly media briefing on Friday. "I’m hoping for the best. At the end of the day, our teams may be rivals, and they might create a rivalry between us, but he’s not my enemy.”

T.J. Watts holds the NFL record of most sacks in a single season after he recorded 22.5 sacks four years ago. Garrett is only 3 sacks away from breaking his record. Watts and Garrett have always had fierce competition between them.

In 2025, Watt, a seven-time Pro Bowler, has made 53 tackles and 7 sacks for the Steelers. He has also recorded one interception and three forced fumbles.

Myles Garrett won Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, for 14 sacks over Watts, who had 19. Watt posted “nothing I’m not used to,” which did not sit well with Garrett.

Despite that, speaking on Watt’s medical condition, Myles Garrett further said, “I’m hoping for the best for him, and he’s healthy, and hopefully he comes back soon.”

Also, it's not the first time that Browns DE has expressed his admiration for the Steelers Linebacker.

Myles Garrett Has "a Lot of Respect" for the Watt Brothers

Earlier in October, just before the Gameweek 6 match between Steleers and the Browns, Garrett said, “Knowing his brother, I have a lot of respect for all three of (the Watt brothers). It’s a hell of an honor and a privilege to be able to play this game at this level. So I’ve nothing but respect for the way he does that.”

In the game, the Steelers ripped apart the Browns' defense, winning 23-9.

The Steelers are scheduled for a rematch with the Browns in Week 17. However, it is unclear when Watt will return to the field any time soon.
