Multiple NFL Coaches Left Unemployed as Franchises Take Harsh Call After Poor Campaign

Jan 8, 2026, 6:06 PM CUT

Black Monday lived up to its name during the 2025 NFL season. Several franchises made sweeping changes following disappointing campaigns. This has left a number of high-profile coaches looking for new jobs.

And this might not be the end, as many owners are still evaluating poor seasons. So, here is the complete list of all the coaches that got fired as of now:

John Harbaugh - Baltimore Ravens

After a heartbreaking 26-24 loss to their rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens decided to part ways with Harbaugh after 18 years.

He won the Super Bowl with them in 2012 and won six AFC North Championships. Harbaugh entered this season with three-straight playoffs finishes. However, after failing to qualify for the playoffs this season, Baltimore owner Steve Bisciotti had enough.

John Morton - Detroit Lions

Lions’ offensive coordinator, John Morton, was relieved of his duties after a disappointing season. Although they ranked third both in passing offense (4303 yards) and touchdowns (35), their points per game average came significantly down from last season, with 28.3.

Things went bad, as after an upset 27-24 loss to the Vikings in Week 9, head coach Dan Campbell stripped him of his signal-calling duties. With a 9-8 record, they failed to qualify for the playoffs and, as a result, Detroit let him go.

Kliff Kingsbury - Washington Commanders

The Commanders didn’t have a great season, finishing third in the NFC East division with a 5-12 record. Kingsbury has been the team's offensive coordinator for two seasons. In his first season, he did a great job, with the team averaging 28.5 points per game and being just one step closer to the Super Bowl.

However, things changed in his second season. Washington ranked 22nd in points per game with 20.9, 24th in passing yards per game with 184.1, and 28th in passing touchdowns with just 19th. Unsatisfied with the result, Kingsbury was sacked on January 6.

Joe Whitt Jr. - Washington Commanders

The firing of Joe Whitt Jr. highlighted the Commanders' defensive struggles this season. Same as Kingsbury, Whitt also joined the Commanders two years ago and produced good results from the defensive unit.

However, after performing so well in 2024, the defense didn’t just fall off; it got worse. The Commanders ranked 29th in passing touchdowns conceded with 33, and were the worst team in the league with 384 yards per game allowed.

Matt Eburflus - Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys’ defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus, was sacked after just one season. Under him, Dallas’ defensive units were one of the worst in the league. They ranked 31st in passing touchdowns conceded with 35, and conceded the most points per game in the league with 30.1.

Jonathan Gannon - Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals finally lost patience with Gannon. After suffering a37-20 loss against the Rams, they had enough and fired him. In his three-year tenure with Arizona as a head coach, he has won only 15 games and lost 36. The Cardinals finished all three seasons with a losing record under him.

Pete Carroll - Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders were a bit harsh with Carroll after sacking him in just one season. He produced a poor season with a 3-14 record and finished fourth in the AFC West division. Reports stated that, following his departure, seven-time Pro Bowler Tom Brady will help Las Vegas find a new head coach, along with general manager John Spytek.

Kevin Stefanski  - Cleveland Browns

After winning two Coach of the Year awards with the Browns, Kevin Stefanski was finally sacked. He delivered back-to-back poor seasons with losing records. Cleveland sacked him after the 20-18 win over the Bengals in their final regular-season game. He has an underwhelming record of 45-56 in his six-year career as the Browns' head coach.

Raheem Morris - Atlanta Falcons

Similar to Gannon and the Cardinals, nothing changed for the Falcons with Raheem Morris as ‌head coach for two years. He joined Atlanta last season and delivered a disappointing 8-9 season. This year, the expectations were high for him to make a change. Unfortunately, he produced another poor season and was sacked even after a 19-17 win against the Saints in their last game.

Josh Grizzard - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It was coming after the Bucs failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Grizzard looked great earlier in the season, winning the first five out of their six games and becoming the NFC South favorites. However, they lost their next 8 games and finished with an 8-9 record.

Despite having veterans like Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans, the Bucs were below average. They ranked 20th in passing yards with 205.9 yards per game and 22nd in rushing with 13 touchdowns.

Mike McDaniel - Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins’ head coach, Mike McDaniel, has been the latest edition in the coaching carousel. He has failed to take the team to the playoffs for the second season in a row. They have been below average (21st) in both passing and rushing touchdowns scored, with 23 and 14, respectively. McDaniel was sacked by the Dolphins after 4 seasons on January 8, still finishing with a winning record of 35-33.
