The Cleveland Browns have found themselves in quite a dilemma in the midst of a quarterback competition between veteran Deshaun Watson and second-year QB Shedeur Sanders. Both are vying for a spot on the first team, but Todd Monken believes otherwise.

After the first day of the Browns' voluntary minicamp, Monken said this:

"I wouldn't say it’s a two-man race. I would just say that at every position, there’s competition. Irrespective of the reps they get, which I’ve said before, everybody ought to be competing.”

Monken’s message is simple. Although it might seem the key battle is between these two, the battle is open to all QB’s on the roster, including Dillon Gabriel, and nothing has been predetermined as of yet.

Monken is keeping an open mindset and doesn't want any of his quarterbacks to think that they would get overlooked on the grounds of experience or any other parameter. He also makes it clear that there won't be any sort of favoritism at all that will influence his first picks.

At the Browns' voluntary minicamp, Shedeur Sanders kicked off first-team reps in 11-on-11 drills, grabbing the initial snaps with the starters. Deshaun Watson rotated in right after, snagging plenty of work too. Both got their exposure, with Sanders getting a bit more, while Dillon Gabriel sat out those sets.

While Todd Monken is not worried about a rat race when it comes to picking his quarterbacks, he is also not worried about rumors concerning their team's star rusher, Myles Garrett.

Todd Monken Gives Update on Myles Garrett

While the absence of the Brown's ace rusher, Myles Garrett, is creating quite some controversy, Monken isn't worried about the matter.

"We were informed. And really, all of the players have informed us. They’ve been unbelievable with their communication. So is Myles. I mean, they’ve communicated. Doesn’t mean I like the communication, but it’s voluntary. I wish they were all here," said Monken about the players who chose to skip this voluntary training activity.

As of now, as per Pro Football Network's Charean Williams, the only communication that has taken place between Garrett and the coach has been through texts. The two are yet to speak in person.

While the trade-off rumors are gaining traction every passing day, it is believed to be just a rumor as GM Andrew Berry has gone on record to say that."Myles is a career Brown."

So as things stand, if nothing dramatic happens, it is highly unlikely that Monken would lose out on the services of one of his top players.
