Mike Vrabel Takes Accountability Over Dianna Russini Controversy
Things aren't going as the New England Patriots head coach, Mike Vrabel, would have imagined. First, a Super Bowl loss, and then the Dianna Russini incident before his second season with the team begins.
The 50-year-old head coach in the press conference that took place today, the Patriots' head coach addressed the ongoing controversy.
“I understand that there are questions, but I take accountability for my actions and the actions that cause the distraction to the people that I care most about," Vrabel said. "My family, this football team, the organization, and our fans, you know, my previous actions don't meet the standard that I hold myself to.”
Around the 2026 NFL league meeting, some pictures were leaked where Vrabel and Russini were allegedly seen together. Now, hours before the NFL Draft, there were further leaks.
“What I believe is best for the two most important things in my life, my family and this football team,” the head coach further said.
Vrabel further emphasized that he would take necessary steps to give the team the best version of himself.
Meanwhile, the situation has been developing for Dianna Russini as well.
The Athletic opened an internal investigation into Russini on April 10th, and she eventually resigned. The NFL insider has also deleted her X account and has gone private on Instagram.
As for Vrabel, he is focused on the New England Patriots.
Mike Vrabel Thanked The Patriots’ Owner in His Speech
Later in the press conference, the 50-year-old head coach spoke about the role New England Patriots management has played in supporting him.
“I'm grateful for Robert (Kraft) and Jonathan (Kraft) for their support. I'm thankful for the coaches and their support, most especially. I'm thankful for the players."
In his first year as head coach, Vrabel took the Patriots from a 3-14 record in 2024 and flipped it on its head as they fell one game short of winning the Lombardi trophy.
"They're the ones that allow us to win games," Vrabel further said. "They're the ones that allow us to coach them. And I appreciate their support.”
After being hired, he immediately transformed the team, leading them to the AFC West title and first Super Bowl appearance since the 2018 season.
Vrabel concluded by saying he is focused on the team moving forward and won't be commenting on the matter anymore.
